OTL: Can We Get Some Extension News, Please?
Welcome back, Ravens Flock. As we drag on through the slog of the NFL offseason, I find myself pondering contract extensions.
But first, one of the biggest storylines that I wanted to discuss from OTAs is the surge from the young receivers on the roster:
“They’re doing a wonderful job.”

It’s no secret that, to this point, the Ravens have not done what they usually do at this point, which is to add an older veteran wide receiver. Not doing so has allowed them to really see what they have in their youth, and so far, the kids have been showing that, maybe, EDC doesn’t need to add one. What has also helped a bit is Rashod Bateman’s absence, giving these guys an actual running lane to show the team what they’ve got.
I would honestly at this point just prefer to run with what they have in the room instead of singing another older weapon.
Now let’s get into today’s main topic, the Lamar Jackson and Zay Flowers contract conversations.
These two are, along with Derrick Henry, the biggest parts of the Ravens offense, and they are both due for massive paydays, so I thought it would be fun to look and see which I think happens first, or the scary thought of one happening over the other.
Let’s look at the lock, Lamar Jackson:
Bleacher Report predicts the extension for Ravens QB Lamar Jackson at a four-year, $266 million deal

There is no doubt in my mind that Lamar is going to get paid again by the Ravens. When he does, he will break records by how much he will be paid, and this time, he won’t have the whole fully guaranteed money situation to hold it back. Lamar will be paid like the top-flight quarterback he is. The question is, when this will happen? Will this linger into the season or get done later on? Unfortunately, noone can say with confidence when, because it all depends on when Lamar actually wants to have these conversations. The moment he decides he wants to sit down and talk, the deal gets done very soon after. It’s just tough to say, here in mid-June, when that will be. I don’t, however, think this goes on into the season, and my final prediction is that it gets done sometime in August.
Next up, Zay. TL covered much of this earlier in the week here.
Sometimes I don’t think Ravens fans or the NFL media appreciate how good Zay Flowers truly is. Yes, he is small, and he does drop the ball at times, but Zay has shown he is more than capable of being a wide receiver in an NFL offense. Zay’s contract situation right now is starting to make me a little worried. I really think this should have been done by now, especially since Zay has made it clear he wants to stay. I have no idea why this hasn’t happened yet. Maybe Zay’s agent is holding something up with the money? Maybe I am overreacting to what just happened with Tyler Linderbaum walking, and the 5th-year option really not being feasible for him (seriously, why do all NFL linemen make the same amount on the fifth-year option?), but I really don’t want to see another young cog on this offense hit the open market.
While I am uneasy about the situation, I do think Zay signs an extension, but please, EDC, make it happen soon, man. I find myself more and more scanning social media for NFL reporters giving us any indication of what the holdup is. The crickets are deafening.
