REPORT: Chicago Bulls interested in landing polarizing forward

Bryson Graham, Chicago Bulls

The Chicago Bulls are entering NBA free agency teeming with cap space, and they are expected to be very active on the open market as a result.

Of course, just because the Bulls have some money available does not mean they will spend foolishly. Top executive Bryson Graham has made it clear that he has a vision for the team, and he has made it clear he wants a very certain type of roster built with specific players.

In particular, Graham wants to add long, athletic defenders, which was why he was so thrilled to get Caleb Wilson with the fourth overall pick of the NBA Draft. It’s also why many have had Josh Giddey tabbed as a trade candidate, but it looks like Chicago will be holding on to him for now.

As far as free agency is concerned, the Bulls need a whole lot, but they are reportedly interested in a player that fits Graham’s mold to the T: forward Jonathan Kuminga.

NBA insiders Marc Stein and Jake Fischer have revealed that Kuminga is on Chicago’s radar, but that the Bulls will face some heavy competition in their pursuit of the 23-year-old.

Chicago Bulls’ interest in Jonathan Kuminga is not surprising

Kuminga is a 6-foot-7, 225-pound versatile defender who can guard multiple positions and do it well, so it’s not at all surprising that Chicago has expressed interest in him. However, Kuminga is one of the more polarizing players available given his offensive inconsistency and his struggles when it comes to spreading the floor.

And, of course, his difficulty staying healthy.

The former No. 7 overall pick split the 2025-26 campaign between the Golden State Warriors and Atlanta Hawks, averaging 12.2 points and 5.6 rebounds over 23.1 minuets per game on 46.3/33.3/72.4 shooting splits. He appeared in just 36 contests due to a knee injury.

The year prior, Kuminga played in 47 games with the Warriors, logging 15.3 points and 4.6 boards a night while shooting 45.4 percent from the floor and 30.5 percent from three-point range.

Kuminga’s questionable durability and less-than-stellar outside shooting are definitely red flags, but his potential is still clearly there. He could comprise a terrific fit for the Bulls, so we’ll see if Chicago is able to land him in the early stages of free agency.
