Fever GM reacts to what rookie Raven Johnson said after big news

The Indiana Fever went all in on Raven Johnson in the 2026 WNBA Draft. They used their 10th overall pick to scoop up the former South Carolina Gamecocks star. For the organization, adding Johnson was intended to improve the backcourt, particularly on the defensive end.

The 5-foot-8 guard has played all 19 games for the Feve thus far. While the reigning SEC Defensive Player of the Year isn’t exactly in contention for this season’s Rookie of the Year award, the 24-year-old has had a considerable impact on the team as a rookie.

Johnson is a key part of head coach Stephanie White’s rotation. She’s averaging 14.0 minutes off the bench per game, producing 4.2 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists. She’s no star, but she brings a ton of energy on the court whenever she’s called upon.

Johnson caught the attention of Fever general manager Amber Cox on Thursday. It wasn’t for what she’s done on the basketball court. Rather, it was because of the beautiful message she sent to Caitlin Clark, Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell.

Indiana’s star trio was announced as starters for the upcoming WNBA All-Star Game in July. The Fever players sent congratulatory messages to the three. For Cox, however, it was Johnson’s statement that stood out.

Clark, Boston and Mitchell were among the top 10 vote-getters for this year’s All-Star Game. Johnson congratulated them with a heartfelt message.

“Attention, please,” the rookie started. “I just want to congratulate Aaliyah Boston, my Gamecock sister, my everything. Caitlyn Clark, my sister, my cousin, my auntie, my mamacita, my friend. And Kelsey, who is my beloved, beloved, loved, loved, loved, loved, loved cousin. I want to congratulate them on what? All-Star starters? They’re just not All-Stars, y’all. Hold your horses. They’re starters. So congratulations to them.

“And you already know, any other team, there’s three of them. Not one, not two, but three of them. Yeah, like that.”

Johnson has not been with the Fever for very long, but it is clear that she has already formed strong bonds with her teammates. This has caught Cox’s attention, and the GM has given it her stamp of approval.
