Stephanie White’s Becky Hammon exchange after Fever-Aces draws attention

Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White

Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White was all smiles after her team’s big win on Sunday. The Fever took down the defending champions, the Las Vegas Aces, on the road at T-Mobile Arena, 84-68.

Granted, reigning WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson was out with an ankle injury, but this was still a milestone victory for a Fever side that has struggled to find consistency throughout the season.

White and Co. improved to 12-8 after securing their second straight win. This was the perfect start to Indiana’s four-game road trip. They now have momentum on their side ahead of their back-to-back set on Wednesday and Thursday against the Los Angeles Sparks and the Phoenix Mercury, respectively.

Fever coach Stephanie White has friendly exchange with Aces’ Becky Hammon

White walked toward the Aces bench as the final buzzer sounded. She was met halfway by Aces head coach Becky Hammon. The two bench bosses engaged in a friendly exchange on the sidelines after their on-court battle.

The two embraced as they exchanged pleasantries. White even covered her mouth as she delivered a final message for her opponent. Both coaches disengaged with big smiles on their faces.

The postgame exchange quickly drew the attention of fans on social media. While some were happy to see the show of sportsmanship between the two, others could not help but find the supposed overly friendly encounter suspicious.

“I loved that moment! I love Becky as a coach. She is crazy and goes to the wall for her players. Stephanie isn’t my favorite and I think she needs a PR coach to teach her how to convey her messaging. She suckz at communication,” a comment on X read.

“Successful coaches hug… why not?” another said.

“Becky Hammond HATES to lose. Their chumminess is suspicious,” pointed out a user.

“I watched that during the game. It was unnerving to say the least. What’s wrong with these people?” asked a viewer.

“Becky smiling from ear to ear after a 20 point loss. Hmm interesting,” said another.

“What can White possibly be saying to another coach that she has to cover her mouth? Honestly I do not trust her,” declared a fan.

White and Hammon go way back. They both entered the WNBA as players in 1999. Both transitioned into coaching after their playing careers and have now established themselves as top-tier coaches in the WNBA. Hammon won WNBA Coach of the Year in 2023, with White equaling the feat a year later.

White and the Fever will end their current four-game road trip with a rematch against the Aces on Sunday. As always, the friendship will need to take a backseat once the game tips off.
