The Phillies are acquiring Luis Arráez and reliever Caleb Kilian from the Giants, according to multiple reports, while San Francisco receives top pitching prospect Ramon Marquez and reliever Marty Gair. It’s a move that makes a contender even deeper.
And the Yankees? They get another participation ribbon for being “interested.”
New York had been heavily connected to Arráez before the deadline. Insiders like Jon Heyman reported the Yankees liked the fit and discussed the three-time batting champion. Of course they did. A lineup missing Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger, and Giancarlo Stanton could’ve used one of the best contact hitters in baseball.
Instead, they watched Philadelphia make the move.
This is becoming a frustrating trend. The Yankees kick the tires, make a few calls, leak their interest… and then someone else lands the player.
