Qualifying for A New Flexible Job
Okay… so this is fun.
Or not.
I’m back to struggling to think in words given how overwhelming absolutely everything seems to be. I’m back on “the schedule”– I guess? Some friends are moving further away within a month. Trump is getting a pathetic array of losers for his cabinet of unqualified loyalists. I keep up with the news, but essentially everything is happening the way it was obvious it was going to happen, and there ain’t diddly squat I can do about it.
Well, there is ONE thing: I’m going to go through the process of becoming an “Individual Provider” so I can get paid to help Rhonda’s son Alex on the regular. She wants a few hours a week of “respite care” and that’s actually something I can do. I “get” Alex and he and I can communicate. I have to chase after him a little, but I’ll do it to make sure things are copacetic. That’s work that’s flexible and I’m hoping to start making a little to make up for my alimony disappearing in a year and a half.
The nice thing is, I’ll be qualified to help my sister part-time as well, for her weekly planning stuff, once she’s been re-qualified for programs after she moves up north. She’ll still have to have an outside Provider for transportation, but I can handle her in-home stuff very easily. It’s not very much money, not with the few hours I can actually do– but it’s something, and that helps me feel less terrified of the future!
As it is now, with all these health and social programs being threatened, I am doing my best not to fall into continuous panic. I know I’m hardly alone! Already the Orange King has rescinded an executive order to freeze money to all these secondary services like Meals on Wheels and Head Start, etc. There was a huge outcry– not least of which being that his orders were unconstitutional (like that matters to him!)
One vulnerability that looks to be attacked soon are the “non-working poor” because… everyone should work? Those of us who don’t usually can’t. I’d love to be back at work, but brain and body are not cooperating. Right now, if I weren’t over 54, I would only qualify for SNAP because I manage to work a few hours a month on blogs and get Patreon money from sponsors. So, finding even part-time flexible work (which is nearly impossible if you don’t drive!) is a good idea so that I avoid getting kicked off the program that feeds me. Cat can’t support me, she’s barely making it as it is, and I need to pay her more rent! She’s realistic, as am I, and I told her I was going to scramble (in slow motion, because… ack!) to figure out some things to make money. However, I wonder if the time will come when I run out of options.
For now, I’m doing my best to expand my options in anticipation that I’m going to need them!
The rest of the time–? I’m watching silly shows and playing video games. Anything to keep from thinking about how screwed I am right now!
