Colbert, O’Donnell, and The Donald

We here at The Price of Liberty are sometimes accused of going overboard by blaming the government(s) for so much and so many things that make people miserable, angry, and poorer.

Well, we guess we’re just pikers.

Dear, dear, infected Rosie O’Donnell, darling of Woke America, has beaten us all hollow. As reported on Breitbart, she has told her 2.8 million TicToc followers (worshippers?) that it is the evil Trump-led FedGov that has blackmailed CBS into giving The Donald a bribe of $16 million dollars and forcing CBS into firing the “great” Stephen Colbert’s The Late Show. Stating that Trump and the Fedgov have thereby destroyed the right of free speech, and more. Apparently the firing of Colbert is just a tiny step away from “full-blown fascism” here in the Fifty States. (Another celebrity has claimed that the CBS action has “dismantled the Constitution.” Apparently two sitting US Senators take her ranting seriously.) And Colbert’s firing is the first step in a dastardly plan by The Donald to “arrest every artist that disagrees with him.” Has the US Constitution been dismantled?

Wow.

The sheer number of prison beds needed to do that staggers our imagination. But however many artists they might claim Trump hates and will arrest for disagreeing with him? It still seems (based on polls and other evidence) that they and their fellow neverTrumpers are very much in the minority. As if that made any difference, of course, with a fascist fedgov and his personal Gestapo (ICE, of course, being the major branch thereof). (Trump, of course, does everything bigger and better: his Gestapo or KGB is obviously much bigger and better than anything that loser Adolf or that other loser Stalin ever had!)

We note that dear, dear Rosie wrote this attack on government and The Donald from her refuge in Ireland, even though she continues to speak of the States as being “our country, not Donald Trump’s.” Hmmm. Perhaps she is working actively with other refugees to establish a “government in exile” in officially-neutral Ireland? She is sure to be joined soon by a regular constellation of celebrity refugees. Not just all those artists fleeing before they are rounded up by ICE, the FBI, DEA, BATFE, and the local Trail Life troops. But dear Kammie the Commie (Harris), Obummer, Pelosi, Schumer, and of course, W (Bush) and the Cheneys and all the rest that Tyrant Trump is going to collect off the streets. And no doubt deport to Gitmo or perhaps South Sudan.

And yes, we understand that CBS claims that it was purely a financial decision. But surely all the usual suspects see this for what it is: Colbert is getting paid $15 million a year by CBS, and no doubt the benefits package and production costs add at least another million bucks. They gotta pay that settlement of $16 million to The Donald somehow. Right?

We don’t suppose that just maybe late night network television is going the way of all flesh. Like news magazines (remember Time, Newsweek, and US News and World Report), daily morning and evening newspapers (too numerous to list), and home delivery of milk and ice for your “ice box.” Oh, and playing the Star-Spangled Banner when the local television station shuts down for the night. Oh, dear, oh dear.

As for the US Constitution? It was “dismantled” piece-by-piece over a century: while the letter is (sometimes) being followed, its spirit and intent are long dead and buried. It is a hollow shell. But Trump had little to do with it.

As for incarcerating or deporting or even waterboarding all those “artists” – well, that gal who once beheaded an effigy of The Donald on stage is probably very glad that she hates him and not, say, Miz Hillary. Otherwise she might have “committed suicide” or died in a plane crash or something by now.

Clearly we here at TPOL agree with Miz Rosie’s fears of guvmint in general, though we think that her beloved Obummer, Klintons, and all the rest of the Woke and Regressive politicos and celebrities are as great a danger to liberty and individual’s freedoms as The Donald, Bondi, Noem, and their ilk.

Of course we don’t have 2.8 million TikTok (or X or YouTube) worshippers, and we happen to think that the Republic of Ireland in 2025 is a sight less free than the States. If not of the UK or Canada. But, we give her the benefit of the doubt. Ireland is much much nicer (more scenic, more green, better climate) than New York City or Hollywood.
