“Permitless carry” – lies and truth

Many of us have heard this too often: “Permitless Carry causes crime to increase enormously. So why would/should a State pass a law allowing permitless carry?” (Map courtesy of USCCA)

“THE” right answer, of course, is to blame the “gun lobby” and those callous, greedy politicians who lust after NRA, JFPO, TZP, and 2AF money while happily watching their constituents get gunned down in the streets or blowing their brains out at home. It is a claim (or variant thereof) made by politicians, “civic organizations,” and the media – even AI. Supposedly as many as 88% of Americans believe something like this.

Surprising, isn’t it, that there is a different reason?

Everytown for Gun Safety, an odd organization indeed, claims that “Everytown researchers found that states that have weakened their firearm permitting system have experienced a 13-15 percent increase in violent crime rates and an 11 percent increase in handgun homicide rates.”

Less Woke academic institutions, like the University of Wyoming (also cited below) tell a different story: “The relationship between constitutional-carry laws and homicide is negative, which is the opposite of what gun-control activists have predicted. Constitutional-carry laws were associated with about 6% lower homicide rates; but, again, the result was not statistically significant. In other words, we cannot be 99%, 95% or 90% sure that this happy result was not due to chance.” (2024 study)

Mike McLaughlin, a handgun trainer, notes this:

• A study by the John Locke Foundation found that states with constitutional carry laws either had a decrease in violent crime or reflected the national trend.
• A study by the Center for Justice Research found that gun crime decreased in six of eight Ohio cities after the state’s permitless carry law went into effect.
• Florida saw a significant decrease in violent crime after enacting permitless carry in 2023. Jacksonville alone saw a 6% decrease.

So what is the truth of the matter?

We submit that people on three out of four corners of the political diamond (the Left, the Right, the so-called Progressives and Conservatives) are both are factually and morally bankrupt when it comes to keeping and bearing arms. Their agendas depend on misinformation and emotional manipulation. Any involvement of government in “managing” the right to have, carry, and use firearms (or any other weapon) in self-defense and the defense of others is immoral.

The majority of states have Constitutional carry, and we find that there has been NO increase in crime. In fact, the opposite is true. Gun Control increases crime. More Gun Control equals more crime.

Like it or not, carry permits, background checks, gun specific taxes and training requirements, all are Gun Control. All of these are Gov’t imposed attacks on firearms freedoms of people. Citizens or not, people are born with the RIGHT to keep and bear arms.

All of these laws eliminate gun rights. How? By making people beg permission from government (at any level) to use any and all aspects of these freedoms! The Bill of Rights specifically forbids government from even infringing on these Rights. We submit that any and all government agencies have zero legitimate authority to impose any gun control.

Yet, the FedGov and every State’s government violates the 2nd Amendment, daily. If we would actually follow the Constitution (instead of letting them get away with violating it), NO carry permit could be required.

However, almost all flavors of political belief are willing to constantly lie about the issues, and will avoid honest discussion at all costs. We submit that this is insanity.

The only long-term solution is to constantly educate any and all people. To indeed, to quote Leviticus, proclaim liberty throughout all the land, and to all the inhabitants thereof. And remembering that the right of self-defense is a natural law, given by God, and the power to defend others is a moral imperative (which we again state is from God), taking action daily to “obey God rather than men.”
