Ice Skating In New York City

Most of us agree that winter just isn’t winter or the holiday season without ice skating in New York City. It’s getting very cold in New York City, which means it’s time to go ice skating! The city is filled with many fabulous rinks that will help you get into the holiday spirit. Some of the City’s top landmarks, such as Rockefeller Center and Prospect Park, are the most well-known. Even if you aren’t a professional ice skater, you can still enjoy one of the rinks listed below.

Rockefeller Center’s Ice Rink

The Rink at Rockefeller Center is the world’s most famous ice-skating rink. With this being one of the city’s first ice rinks to open each season, it’s also one of the busiest. Fortunately, there are only 150 people allowed to skate at a time, so you don’t have to worry that it will be too crowded on the rink. If you don’t want to stand in line, make a reservation for a skate time online. It’s best to try to skate first thing in the morning so you can enjoy some fresh ice. The Rink is Open for the Season! Open daily now through March, from 7am to 11pm with 30-minute breaks in between in order to clear the ice. Purchase your tickets now! BUY TICKETS

Bryant Park’s Bank Of America Winter Village

Ice skating, holiday shopping, and festive rinkside dining at New York City’s winter wonderland. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to go ice skating in New York City. The rink offers free admission for ice-skating; high-quality rental skates; and ice shows, special events, and other daily activities from late October to early March.

This 17,000 square foot rink is free to skate on if you bring your own skates. If you don’t have a pair, you will have to shell out $18-$60 to rent them (depending on the date). It’s still a bargain, though, as you can skate as long as you want, and it’s in a convenient location that won’t take nearly endless subway rides to get to.

There is also a rinkside restaurant called Public Fare. Here you can enjoy something to eat after you’ve worked up an appetite practicing your figure 8s and leaps. You can find ticket information here.

Central Park’s Wollman Rink

For more than 70 years, Wollman Rink has served as a unique skating and event venue for New York City. Located in the heart of Central Park, it has been featured in many holiday movies throughout the years. Those with children often flock to this rink. It’s a smaller rink and does tend to be crowded. However, the location of it, along with the scenery of Central Park, entices visitors from both near and far. It is one of the prettiest places to skate in all of New York City. Get your tickets here.

LeFrak Center Ice Skating

Head over to Prospect Park if you want to experience a variety of winter-related activities. Visitors can enjoy not only the indoor and outdoor ice skating rinks, but also curling and broomball as well. It’s a great place to spend the day with the kids and to let them burn off some energy.

Chelsea Piers Sky Rink

You can skate at this rink year-round and not just during the winter months. There are two NHL-sized ice rinks here, so you don’t have to worry about there being no place to skate because of the crowds. One of the perks of skating here is that there are numerous windows so you can get an amazing view of the Hudson River.

Riverbank State Park’s Rink

This indoor rink is only open Friday through Sunday, so you won’t be able to skate during the week. Ice Skating is an option from November through March (weather permitting), located in the Washington Heights area. Skate hours are Fridays from 6-9pm; Saturdays 1-4pm and 6-9pm; Holiday Hours are 11-2pm and 3-6pm. It does have a roof so that you can enjoy skating without getting snowed on. Visitors can also get a nice view of the George Washington Bridge, the Hudson River, and New Jersey from the rink while they skate.

The Rink at Brookfield Place with Gregory & Petukhov

Ice skating in NYC on the banks of the Hudson River with the One World Trade Center building in the background. A boutique ice skating experience in Manhattan. The Rink is Open Holiday Hours 9am-9pm. There are public skate hours and private lessons hosted by United States Olympians Melissa Gregory and Denis Petukhov.
