Deals Made and Broken – The US Attack on Syria, Operation Desert Storm and the Highway of Death

The US-supported anti-Assad forces have been caught using humanitarian aid vehicles as a means to transport arms, ammunition and equipment to other jihadists in Syria. In the wreckage of vehicles that were attacked by the Syrian government, which the US claimed were only transporting food, it turns out tons of weapons and ammunition were also being transported for use against Syria.  The cease-fire the US claimed was negotiated in good-faith proved to be little more than a ruse.

In the US attack on Syria, the US claimed it “accidently” hit Syrian military personnel thereby killing 60 and wounding over 100.  This attack can only be viewed as close-air support for ISIS. Immediately upon the US hitting Syrian forces, ISIS mounted an immediate attack the scale of which would clearly demonstrates this was a deliberate, planned and coordinated attack. 

Since the US first decided to go along with its planned illegal occupation of Syria, Russia has done everything in its power to work with the US to coordinate bombing attacks, but the US rebuffed all overtures for cooperation.

Previously, after Turkey shot down a Russian SU-24 fighter-bomber, Putin instituted a no-fly zone over Syria.  He then changed his rules of engagement after the US stated it was going to establish bases inside Syria to obtain intelligence needed to direct a bombing campaign against ISIS. 

The US then claimed it was going to start cooperating with Russia, and when Russia brought up the idea of a cease-fire, it appeared the US might use some of the perceived sway it believed to hold with the jihadists it had been arming and advising in order to bolster efforts to bring an end to the fighting.  It now decisively appears that the US never had any intention at all of working to end the bloodshed and was willing to trade good-faith, trust, cooperation and a de-escalation of violence for a momentary tactical advantage and a chance to stick their thumb in the eye of Putin and Assad. What the US fails to acknowledge is that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.  It was this failure that brought 9/11 and it is this failure that has left the US in a quagmire fifteen years later from which it seems it cannot extricate itself as we inch closer to a global conflagration.

Russia once again seems intent upon re-instituting a no-fly zone to force the US in a position of having to coordinate its bombing campaign.  The difference between Russia hitting anti-Assad forces and the US hitting the regime’s military is that Russia never made any bones about it supporting the sovereign government, but the US claimed it would not hit the Syrian military and now it has clearly reneged on this agreement and committed an aggressive act of war.

Any belief by Russia that the US would honor any of its commitments is foolishness on their part.  The US reneged when it attacked Saddam’s army on the Highway of Death even after Russia acted as an intermediary to broker a deal to save Kuwait from destructive urban combat by promising Saddam the US would not attack his retiring force.  The US broke the agreement and violated the Geneva Convention as it destroyed Saddam’s army that was in left in the open as it foolishly believed in US good will.

Next, as the USSR fractures, Russia let all the Baltic countries go in exchange for the US promising not to expand NATO.  In no time at all the US reneged on that deal and went on to incorporate many Warsaw Pact nations into NATO.  Now the US tells Russia it wants to help in the war on ISIS in Syria and then perpetrates a horrendous war crime by instead slaughtering Syrian military personnel.

The press briefing by Samantha Power then went on to mock and insult Russia for bringing this slaughter up with the UN Security Council.  This stab at diplomacy was rebuffed and the propaganda spewed by Power had “Neocon WWIII” written all over it.  The question is:  How far are we going to allow Obama and Clinton to drag this country down the sewer.  Trump has become the populist candidate who is exposing the establishment politician.  Hopefully Americans will understand that this election is a refutation of the status quo.  Americans should realize that if you do what you have always done, you will get what you have always got.  The most principled and accurate description of Hillary comes from progressive Democrats.  Maybe that is why Hillary has to wear a catheter.
