Iran’s Tankers Defy U.S. Blockade, Then Trump Erases Their Whole Fleet (Video)

As of April 20, 2026, President Donald Trump has implemented a total U.S. naval blockade of all Iranian ports and coastal areas, leading to the forceful seizure and disabling of Iranian vessels that attempt to defy it. The blockade officially began at 10 a.m. ET on April 13, 2026, following the collapse of peace negotiations in Islamabad led by Vice President JD Vance. U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) is preventing commercial vessels from entering or leaving Iranian coastal areas to choke off the regime’s oil revenue. 

Trump claimed on Truth Social that Iran’s traditional navy is “completely obliterated,” stating that 158 ships have been destroyed and lie at the bottom of the sea. Trump warned that any remaining Iranian “fast attack ships” approaching the blockade will be “immediately eliminated” using “quick and brutal” tactics similar to those used against maritime drug traffickers. In recent days, the U.S. military has moved from verbal warnings to kinetic action against vessels attempting to bypass the blockade.

On April 19, 2026, the USS Spruance intercepted the 900-foot Iranian-flagged cargo ship Touska in the Gulf of Oman. After the crew ignored six hours of warnings, the destroyer fired on the ship’s engine room to disable its propulsion. U.S. Marines then boarded and took custody of the vessel. Since the blockade began, the U.S. Navy has directed at least 25 commercial vessels to turn around or return to Iranian ports. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced intensified “Economic Fury” sanctions targeting Iran’s illicit oil transportation infrastructure, including networks linked to the Shamkhani family.

The standoff has caused significant global disruptions as the Strait of Hormuz remains a primary flashpoint. Crude oil prices surged past $100 per barrel, peaking at $126 as traffic through the strait dropped to near zero. Major shipping firms have suspended operations in the area due to risks from sea mines, satellite spoofing, and Iranian missile threats. Iran has labeled the U.S. actions “piracy” and vowed retaliation, while Washington frames the blockade as its most effective tool to force Tehran back to the negotiating table.
