Following the U.S. seizure of two Iranian tankers, Iran responded by seizing two international cargo ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
The blockade, which began on April 13, 2026, aims to stop Iran’s oil exports and pressure Tehran into a new diplomatic deal. This has led to a significant plunge in Iranian oil exports as storage facilities fill up due to the tightened maritime restrictions.
