The Longer Iran War Lasts, the More the World Changes for the Worse (Video)

The ongoing war with Iran is pushing the global economy and international security into a volatile state of endurance as the conflict enters its seventh month. Brent crude has climbed back over $100 per barrel (hovering around $106), and liquefied natural gas (LNG) prices have spiked by nearly 60 percent following disruptions in the Persian Gulf. The effective closure and ongoing attacks in the Strait of Hormuz—which carries nearly 20 percent of global oil and gas—combined with Houthi activities near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, have severely strained global shipping. 

International institutions note that global buffers (including strategic petroleum reserves and food stores) are largely depleted, threatening lower global growth forecasts and reigniting inflation risks. What started as a brief operation following strikes on February 28, 2026, has devolved into a grinding stalemate with no immediate diplomatic resolution. President Trump has suggested the situation could persist past the U.S. midterm elections on November 3, 2026. Neighboring Gulf states face infrastructure damage from retaliatory strikes, prompting regional powers like Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Turkey to seek backchannels while simultaneously hardening long-term opposition to Tehran. Prolonged military involvement carries mounting political friction for the U.S. administration, while European nations grapple with high resource costs and fractured supply chains.

Iran’s ongoing conflict and proxy actions have severely pressured Saudi Arabia’s critical energy infrastructure, economy, and national security.  Drone strikes—blamed by Saudi Arabia on Iranian-backed militias operating in Iraq—forced the closure of the strategic 750-mile East-West oil pipeline, which carries up to 7 million barrels daily to the Red Sea to bypass the Strait of Hormuz. Repairs are estimated to take 3 to 5 weeks, threatening global oil supplies and pushing Brent crude above $105 a barrel. Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels have advanced along Yemen’s western coast, seizing control of strategic islands near the Bab al-Mandab Strait and declaring a blockade on Saudi Red Sea shipping and energy facilities. Houthi drone and missile volleys have targeted Saudi economic and civilian sites—including Aramco energy facilities, air bases, and southern cities like Abha and Jizan—causing localized fires and temporary operational halts. 

Despite initial surges in early-year oil revenues and profits for Saudi Aramco, wartime disruptions, refinery output losses, and an unexpected escalation in military and government spending have driven Saudi Arabia’s budget deficit sharply upward. Riyadh has responded by conducting direct, covert strikes on drone and missile launch sites inside Iran and targeting pro-Iranian militia positions in Iraq, while jointly condemning Tehran alongside fellow Gulf states. The conflict has exposed vulnerabilities in traditional U.S. security frameworks, leaving Saudi Arabia navigating heightened regional risks, strained air defenses, and a delicate diplomatic balance amid ongoing U.S.-Iran hostilities.
