Located on a sheer cliff face, about 60 meters above sea level, it proudly bills itself as ‘the world’s most extreme café’.
Gushi Cliff Coffee basically consists of rectangular platforms bolted to the cliff, which act as seating for patrons. To reach the café, tourists must first traverse a ‘via ferata’ trail for about 30 minutes before being rappelled down to the platforms under the supervision of an instructor.
Open since 2004, the cliffside café recently went viral after several clips shot at the breathtaking location started circulating on social media. Faced with massive interest from tourists, the founder of Cliff Coffee emphasized that advance reservations are required, and that people can’t simply rappel to the platforms without staff supervision.
A coffee at Gushi Cliff Coffee costs 398 yuan ($58), which sounds a bit spicy, even for premium coffee, but the owner of the unique venue explained that the price includes the mandatory insurance, professional equipment rental, and the rappelling instructors. Plus, there is no time limit for your stay. Once you get to the platforms, you can stay for as long as you want.
Described as a nightmare for coffee lovers with a fear of heights, Gushi Cliff Coffee has been attracting adrenaline junkies from all over China.
