Bed Bath & Beyond just announced it won’t reopen stores in California.

The reason is simple: doing business there has become too expensive. Governor Gavin Newsom mocked the decision, but this is part of a bigger trend of overregulation driving companies out of the state.
Now the same mindset is going national. Intel has lost more than $20 billion in the past year, and President Trump is considering a government stake in the company. That isn’t America First. It’s corporate welfare which pushes us further down the road to serfdom.
The “Intel Chips Act” refers to a partnership where the U.S. government awards Intel significant funding and grants under the CHIPS and Science Act to bolster domestic semiconductor manufacturing in exchange for a partial government stake in the company.
The current deal, initiated under the Trump administration and utilizing funds from the 2022 CHIPS Act, provides Intel with grants for building new chip plants in the U.S. and includes a stipulation for the government to purchase a 9.9 percent stake in Intel stock.
