Are You a Lazy Learner – Or A Warrior for the Truth? Why it Matters
Posted 8/7/2025 | End Times Watch | River Wilde
I heard the phrase from my church leaders recently, “Lazy Learner.” When I got to thinking about being a Lazy Learner, I concluded that the church actually had this question backwards from what they were meaning to say. A Lazy learner to me indicates someone that allows others (like church leaders) to do the studying for them. They simply follow what they are taught, with little or no effort to study the truth for themselves.
Let’s face it: learning takes effort. It requires curiosity, critical thinking, and the humility to admit you might be wrong. But in today’s religious world, many people have handed over that responsibility to their church leaders. They don’t study for themselves—they just trust the system. They are indeed, Lazy Learners…under the false heading of being faithful.
The question is: Are you one of them? Are you a lazy learner when it comes to truth?
In conversations that I’ve had with active members of my church regarding the end times, I frequently hear, “I’m not worried about any of it. My leaders will tell me what I need to know,” or “I’m grateful that I have a prophet who will guide me. I just need to follow him.” I’m not being critical, but these two statements are examples of what I am discussing today… “Lazy Learners.”
Trusting Men Over Truth
Far too often, people attend church each week, hear a sermon, and consider their spiritual box checked. They don’t test the message against the Word of God. They don’t dig deeper. They just assume their leaders are right.
But here’s the danger:
“Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.” – Jeremiah 17:5 (KJV)
If your knowledge of God comes secondhand—filtered through creeds, traditions, or polished messages—you’re not learning truth; you’re inheriting opinion.
God Calls You to Study for Yourself
The Bible doesn’t say, “Wait for your church leader to tell you what the truth is.”
It says:
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” – 2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV)
That’s a personal call to action. No excuses. No outsourcing.
Learning the truth isn’t a group project. It’s personal. And when you leave it to someone else, you become vulnerable to deception—especially in the last days when false teachers abound.
“For many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.” – Matthew 24:11 (KJV)
Religion Is Comfortable. Truth Isn’t.
Let’s be honest: It’s comfortable to let others do the thinking for you. It’s easy to stay in a religious routine, say the right things, and never ask hard questions. But truth seekers are different. They’re uncomfortable with shallow answers. They question, wrestle, and dig.
Truth seekers aren’t afraid to find out they were wrong.
Lazy learners are terrified of it.
Jesus didn’t say, “Blessed are those who conform.”
He said:
“Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.” – Matthew 5:6 (KJV)
Hunger and thirst aren’t passive. They drive you to seek, knock, and ask until you find.
Wake Up and Take Ownership
If your only source of spiritual knowledge is your church, it’s time to wake up. Truth isn’t found in polished pulpits, emotional worship, or denominational slogans. It’s found in Jesus Christ, His Word, and a personal relationship with the Holy Spirit, who leads you into all truth (John 16:13).
You will stand before God alone, not with your pastor, your prophet, or your favorite teacher.
Will you be someone who searched the scriptures daily to see whether those things were so? (Acts 17:11)
Or someone who followed the crowd and called it faith?
Here’s How to Stop Being a Lazy Learner:
- Open your Bible daily – not just devotionals, but full chapters with context.
- Question everything that doesn’t line up with the Word – even if your church says it’s true.
- Ask the Holy Spirit for guidance – He’s the best teacher you’ll ever have.
- Be willing to be wrong – that’s where real growth happens.
- Choose truth over comfort – even if it costs you your place in a religious group.
- Follow the teachings in the bible, regardless where they take you. You are seeking the truth, not just trying to prove your thinking is correct.
Final Thought
In the days ahead, deception will look spiritual. It will come dressed in religion, backed by scripture, and led by “respected” leaders. If you’re not grounded in the truth for yourself, you will fall.
If your foundation is built upon trusting men, you will find yourself in trouble. I can speak to this personally, as I have recently discovered that the religion that I was a part of my entire life was nothing more than a made-up story of lies and deception. “Scammers” under the guise of righteous men…Wolves in sheep’s clothing. I give praise to my God for helping me escape the promoters of Lazy Learners.
God gave us a warning that we need to consider:
Matthew 24:24 (KJV):
“For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.”
I’m grateful that I am out of that deception now, and choose to help others prepare for the great deception that is to come through these “false prophets”. Will you be one of the “Very Elect” that will be deceived as mentioned in this scripture?
“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge…” – Hosea 4:6 (KJV)
Don’t be destroyed. Don’t be deceived. Don’t be lazy.
Be a seeker. A student. A warrior for truth. Your spiritual learning is up to YOU, not a church. Take that assignment to heart. Do you thirst for the truth, or are you afraid of it? I found the truth in the KJV of the New Testament, and you can as well.
Study the gospel of Jesus Christ that He taught when He was on the earth. Seeking and finding the TRUTH first will help you process the deception that you have been involved with.
Gods’ words are filled with encouragement and light. This will help you move forward, instead of being bitter towards the ones that have deceived you. Also, be thankful that you will not be under their seduction as they continue to lead many away from God in these last days. You have no idea what is coming. Trust NO man… Only God!!
