Are You Feeling Like You Don’t Belong on this Earth? There is an Important Reason Why You Are Feeling This Way

Have you ever felt like you don’t quite belong here—that your heart aches for something greater, something beyond this world? You are not alone. Many people of faith feel this same deep longing, a yearning to return to God and live with Him forever. The Bible speaks directly to this desire.

Strangers and Pilgrims on the Earth

The faithful of old confessed that this world was not their true home:

“These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth… But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.”
(Hebrews 11:13, 16, KJV)

God’s people have always carried within their hearts a sense of being travelers here, waiting for the better country He has prepared.

Our Citizenship Is in Heaven

Though we walk this earth, our true identity is anchored elsewhere:

“For our conversation [citizenship] is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ.”
(Philippians 3:20, KJV)

We are citizens of heaven, eagerly awaiting the day when Christ transforms us into His likeness.

A Desire to Be with Christ

The apostle Paul put this yearning into words:

“We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.”
(2 Corinthians 5:8, KJV)

For those who love Christ, there is no greater desire than to leave behind the brokenness of this world and enter into His presence.

Groaning for Redemption

This longing isn’t weakness—it is the Spirit of God stirring within us:

“Even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.”
(Romans 8:23, KJV)

Our groaning is holy—it’s the deep ache for the day of redemption when all pain, sorrow, and separation will end.

Finding Hope While We Wait

Yes, we may feel like strangers here, but that doesn’t mean we are abandoned. Christ walks with us now, giving strength and peace while we wait. Our longing for God is not a curse—it is evidence that we belong to Him, that He has written eternity on our hearts.

So when you feel out of place in this world, remember: that longing is a reminder of your heavenly home. Lift your eyes to Christ, for He has prepared a place for you.

“In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.”
(John 14:2, KJV)

Hold on to that promise—the day is coming when our journey ends, and we will finally be home with Him. Unlike others who have lived before us, we today have an understanding that we are all just a few short years away from being with God in our heavenly home.

Jesus Christ is coming to this earth to “Receive His Bride” (His church) through the Rapture, and celebrate the “Wedding Feast” that will happen in the clouds, prior to His return to defeat evil during the Battle of Armageddon. Our wait will soon be over, and just as our heart desires, we will once again be HOME. Living in peace, love, and harmony with our Savior Jesus Christ in the glorious new home that He has created for us.
