Christian Persecution and the Seven Seals of Revelation – Would You Give Up Your Life for Jesus Christ? Let Me Help You Answer This

The Bible tells us that in the last days, persecution will increase. What we see happening now to Christians worldwide is not a surprise to God—it was foretold in Scripture. The Book of Revelation paints a vivid picture of end-time events through the breaking of seven seals, each unleashing a new stage of tribulation on the earth.

As persecution against believers rises across the globe, we can recognize how it ties into these prophetic warnings.

What the Data Shows

• According to the Open Doors 2025 World Watch List, over 380 million Christians now face “high levels of persecution and discrimination.” That’s about one in seven Christians globally.
• The number has increased by ~15 million from the previous year.
• In 2024 alone, 4,476 Christians were reportedly killed for their faith worldwide.
• Almost 4,744 Christians were imprisoned or detained in connection with their beliefs.
• Properties associated with Christian worship—churches, meeting places, etc.—were attacked. The number of such attacks was 7,679 in the period the report covers.

Where It’s Worst & Key Trends

Several regions and countries stand out:

• Africa, particularly sub-Saharan Africa, remains a hotspot. Nigeria, in particular, accounted for a very large share of Christian deaths.
• Central Asia and North Africa are seeing legal and societal pressures, including laws targeting Christian worship, restrictions on church activity, and sometimes forced closures.
• Asia, more broadly, is seeing rising cases of detention, societal discrimination, anti-conversion laws, and suppression of house churches. India is often mentioned in that context.

Emerging trends also include:

• Discrimination not just through violence, but through law, regulation, and informal social pressure (“squeezes”)—for example, laws that restrict who can build or register churches, word-of-mouth harassment, or economic penalties.
• Displacement: large numbers of Christians being forced to flee their homes or communities due to conflict, persecution, or threats.
• Attacks on Christian institutions: churches, schools, hospitals have been vandalized, closed, or destroyed.

Some Specific Incidents

To put faces and places to the statistics, here are a few of the more severe recent incidents:

• The Yelwata massacre in Nigeria (June 2025): somewhere between 100–200 Christian villagers killed, thousands displaced.
• The Komanda massacre in the Democratic Republic of the Congo: an attack on a Catholic church vigil, resulting in 43-50 civilian deaths (including many women and children).
• The Kasanga massacre (Feb 2025, D.R. Congo): Christians abducted, taken to a Protestant church, many reportedly killed.
• The attack from a raged gunman at a Michigan church, killing 4, wounding several; setting the entire church on fire.

These incidents highlight the brutality of violence in some regions, and the vulnerability of Christian communities, especially in rural or conflict-affected areas.

What’s Causing Persecution

Extremist violence, terrorism, authoritarian regimes, social hostility and communal violence… These are all the listed reasons for the persecution, however we all know differently.

Christians are a target for the evil forces that are upon the earth. Satan and his team are specifically targeting Christians because they represent the true followers of Jesus Christ. Can you see this distinction?

There are only two teams upon the earth today: Good and evil. Are you a follower of Jesus Christ?

The Seven Seals Connection

The opening of the seals in Revelation 6–8 outlines a progression of world events leading into the Tribulation. Persecution of Christians fits directly within these judgments:

The Fifth Seal (Revelation 6:9–11).
John sees “under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held.” This is a direct vision of Christian martyrs crying out for justice. What we see today—the murder of believers in Nigeria, Congo, and beyond—is a foretaste of this prophetic reality.

The persecution we see today is both a present tragedy and a prophetic sign. It reminds us that:

Scripture is true. What Jesus and John foretold is unfolding before our eyes.

God sees every tear. The martyrs’ cries are not ignored—Revelation shows that God will avenge them in His timing.

We must endure. Revelation 2:10 reminds us: “Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.”

Hope is certain. While persecution increases, so does the assurance that Christ is coming soon to establish His kingdom and wipe away all tears.

The rising persecution of Christians globally is a multifaceted crisis—rooted in violence, legal oppression, communal hostility, and displacement. It is a human rights issue, a faith issue, and a moral issue that demands attention and action.

Christians, churches, governments, and concerned citizens must not turn away. Whether through prayer, advocacy, relief, or awareness, we can play a role. The stories of faith amid suffering are powerful reminders of both the cost of belief and the resilience of those who persevere.

Let’s Be Real for a Moment

There isn’t anyone upon the earth right now that desires persecution, ridicule, or even death based upon what they believe. Our very mortal makeup pushes us to avoid such conflict. So, how can we process what is happening, if we are followers of Christ… “Christians?”

The simple answer is for us to “ZOOM OUT” for a moment. Let’s focus upon the big picture to see just exactly what we are fighting for in this spiritual battle that is happening upon the earth right now.

Satan and his team are attacking God, and His team, “Christians.” This is the final battle that has been prophesied in the scriptures for thousands of years. These are the last 7 years upon earth. Satan and his team are, and will be, unleashed onto the inhabitants of the earth. Satan’s time is running out, and he knows it. His mission, to destroy as much as he can with the good that is on the earth. And, in his target sights are Christians.

This in itself can be “scary” and concerning, but when you consider the “Prize” it spins things in an entirely different direction. Let’s dive into this.

In 7+ years, all of the inhabitants upon the earth will no longer be here, for the world will be changed after the battle of Armageddon. We will all be gone, “dead” if you will. As tragic as this sounds, it is important to use this information to process being persecuted as Christians.

After death, satan and his followers will be cast into the lake of fire, to life forever in such an awful place, under the rule of pathetic satan.

And Christians, followers of Jesus Christ? Their ending is much different than the other team. We will live with Jesus Christ in PEACE, happiness, fulfillment, joy, satisfaction and LOVE. Forever in a heavenly place which is indescribable. Surrounded by those that you love who are also followers of Christ.

This is the prize that each team will receive.

Now, lets go back to the conflict at hand; Being persecuted for Christ, but realizing that you will receive the best PRIZE possible…Spending eternity with Jesus Christ and those we love. Is this not worth any persecution that we would face here on earth to receive such a glorious reward? Even in surrendering your life defending Jesus Christ, can’t you see that by doing so, it would get you your “Prize” even sooner than having to wait and endure this mortal life for the 7 last years?

When we change our focus from ONLY this life, to the big picture of eternity, we are not giving our life, we are simply turning the page into eternity, and receiving the prize that you have been working for.

Not all Christians will be killed because of their belief. The majority will be rescued by Jesus in the event known as the rapture, where believers will be lifted up in the air to meet and be with Jesus forever. These people will not even face death, for they will be “changed” into their perfect glorified body in an instant. This likely will be the case for you who are reading this.

Since we are on the challenging topic of giving up your life, wanting to spend eternity with Christ, can I share something personal with you?

Recently, I have had many dreams, and even thoughts while awake, regarding giving up my life in defending our Savior. Let me share those thoughts with you now.

Jesus Christ gave His life for me…and You. He did this in fulfilment of the atonement, so that all of us could be forgiven of our sins and live with Him in the presence of God for eternity.

I have been in the depths of despair as a result of my sins, and have felt the cleansing power of this atonement. Because of Jesus Christ, I am certainly a very different person that I once was. He essentially saved me. How can I ever repay this gift that He has given to me and you?

He died for me, and I would die for Him if needed! I feel deeply that this would be an honor, rather than a “loss,” if this were to be my mission. And in the midst of the process of having my life taken, I know that He would be there, comforting me, even removing me emotionally from the “frightening” sting of death. And after only a brief moment, I would meet Him in heaven, and embrace Him for the sacrifice that He made for me. Death is merely a quick moment, and then the prize! It would be as simple as the turning of a page. Going from such an awful mortal world to a new home of everything wonderful, peaceful, and glorious.

I would like for all of you to consider what I have written. It takes the fear out of death for me. And by doing so, allows me to stand for what I believe in, for there is nothing that satan and his team can take away from me that matters…not even my life. I would just go to the head of the line in moving in to my new home in heaven.

Please spend some time reviewing these concepts with God in prayer. You will see, as it has done for me, that it will give you POWER in facing the enemy. Satan loses any bargaining power if you realize that even your mortal life has no immediate significance as it relates to the big picture of eternity.

I’d like for you to see the other side as well, so that you can consider things right now while you are not in the midst of chaos.

The average person, who does not have God in their life, will do whatever they are told to do to avoid harm, or something that would complicate their life. Here is their likely scenario:

At the 3.5-year mark of the 7-year tribulation period, it will be mandatory for all mankind to take the “Mark of the Beast.” You will not be able to have a job, or participate in any financial transaction without the mark. Taking the mark means that you are willingly pledging to follow satan, essentially giving him control of your soul. Many will accept the mark without much thought. They will do this because it is the “easy way.”

At the same time, God will begin pouring out His bowls of wrath upon all of those who have taken the mark. God’s wrath will make living on this earth the most miserable time that you could imagine. God is punishing all of those who are on team satan. Remember, the battle that is happening in these last days has two sides. God will be fighting back against satan and all of his followers. You cannot take satans side and think that things will be easy. You suddenly realize that taking the mark was not the easiest way, for it has brought God’s punishment upon you. Oops!

Those who are followers of satan will be killed at the end of the 7-year tribulation period after the battle of Armageddon, and will be sent to the lake of fire to be with satan for all of eternity. Miserable, hollow, unloved, desolate, and defeated. You’ve just realized that you too will lose your life in following satan.

Now, which scenario sound the best to you? Can you see that even losing your life defending Jesus Christ is simple, compared to what would happen to you if you choose to follow the losing team, satan?

And a side note, be prepared for the antichrist to give you lots of false promises. He will seduce you into following him by promising things that are not true, and that he knows full well will not happen. Remember, he will be the great deceiver. DO NOT TRUST WHAT HE WILL PROMISE YOU!

So, this is a great deal of information for you to unpack. Continue taking the time needed to understand what is coming and how you can be prepared. Your eternal life depends on it.
