Daniel’s 70 Weeks – What Does This End-Times Information Mean? It’s Time that You Understand

The prophecy of Daniel’s 70 weeks is one of the most detailed and powerful prophecies in the Bible. It lays out God’s entire plan for Israel—from the rebuilding of Jerusalem, to the coming of the Messiah, to the end-times Tribulation and Christ’s return.

Let’s walk through what this prophecy means, step by step. Scripture can sometimes be hard to understand, so I ask that you pause for a moment and ask God to assist you in understanding what I have written.

The Scripture (Daniel 9:24–27, KJV)

24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.

25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.

26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.

27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

What the “70 Weeks” Mean

Let’s start with the understanding of what “70 Weeks” means. In this prophecy, the word “week” represents seven years, not seven days. This is important to understand.
So, seventy weeks = 490 years (70 x 7).

These 490 years are a prophetic timeline that God set for Israel (“thy people”) and Jerusalem (“thy holy city”)—not for the Gentile nations or the Church. God is telling us His plan for Israel and His people. This is significant, as you will later see.

The Six Purposes of the 70 Weeks (Daniel 9:24)

God declared that these seventy weeks would accomplish six things:

1. Finish the transgression – End Israel’s rebellion.
2. Make an end of sins – Sin will finally be dealt with.
3. Make reconciliation for iniquity – Fulfilled through Christ’s death on the cross.
4. Bring in everlasting righteousness – Fulfilled at Christ’s Second Coming and Millennial Kingdom.
5. Seal up the vision and prophecy – Complete all prophecy.
6. Anoint the most Holy – The Messiah or the future Millennial Temple will be consecrated.

Now, this sound like a great deal of information, which it is. Don’t try to absorb all of this right now, just know that these are the purposes that God has planned for the 70 weeks. Don’t get snagged up here. You do not need to understand this section in great detail. Just realize the headings of the things that are to happen in this time.

When the Timeline Begins (Daniel 9:25)

If we now know that there are 70 Weeks in this prophecy, it is important to understand when this time period starts. Let’s go there now.

This command to restore Jerusalem was given by King Artaxerxes in 445 B.C. (see Nehemiah 2:1–8).
Daniel is told that from this decree until the Messiah appears will be:

• 7 weeks (49 years) – Time to rebuild Jerusalem.
• + 62 weeks (434 years) – Time until the Messiah comes.

That’s 69 weeks (not the full 70 weeks yet) total (49 + 434 = 483 years).

If you count forward 483 years from 445 B.C., you arrive around A.D. 32–33 — exactly when Jesus Christ entered Jerusalem as the promised Messiah the Prince (the Triumphal Entry).

So, what is important to understand here is that Daniel had a prophecy that included a period of time referred to as 70 weeks. 7 of those weeks (7 years) was for Jerusalem to be rebuilt, which it was. The next 62 weeks, (483 years) bring us to the year that Jesus Christ fulfilled His atoning sacrifice, which was around 32-33 AD.

This shows how precisely God fulfills prophecy! Daniel prophesied that in 69 weeks, Jesus Would fulfill His sacrifice for the world. This actually happening lends credibility in showing us that Daniel was indeed correct in what he was saying in his writings.

The Messiah Is “Cut Off” (Daniel 9:26)

“After threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself…”

After the 69th week, the Messiah is “cut off”—a prophecy of Jesus’ crucifixion.
He did not die for Himself but for the sins of all humanity.

Whew…Are you with me so far? Awesome! Let’s continue.

So, you will notice that there is only 7 weeks (7 Years) left in Daniel’s prophecy. From this period of time, Daniels 70-week count enters a pause. Let’s learn more about this pause.

The Gap Between the 69th and 70th Weeks

There is a time gap between the 69th and 70th weeks—this period of time is referred to as the Church Age. Jesus Christ had fulfilled the atonement, as well as taught the “Gospel of Jesus Christ.”

The Church Age, often called the Age of Grace, is the period of time that began after Jesus Christ’s death, and resurrection. It marks the birth of the Christian Church.

During this time, God’s focus is on spreading the Gospel to all nations, offering salvation through faith in Jesus Christ rather than through the works of the Law. The Church Age is characterized by God’s grace, the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, and the formation of the body of Christ made up of believers from every tribe and nation.

It is a time of mercy and opportunity before the coming Tribulation, when God’s judgment will again fall upon a world that has largely rejected Him.

Alright, this brings us up to our present time. Today, 2025. Daniels 69 weeks have been fulfilled, and the Church Age is drawing near an end. We are at the door of entering the 70^th week that Daniel spoke of.

So, when will we know that this final week has started? Let’s go back to the scripture that we first read, Daniel 9:27:

27 “And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week (This is the final week or 7 years) and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.”

The Final Week – The Tribulation

“He shall confirm the covenant with many for one week…”

The Antichrist will make a seven-year peace agreement with Israel. This is how we will know that the final 7 years on earth has begun. The antichrist will make a peace agreement with who? Remember Daniel is talking about Israel, so this agreement will be with Israel and “Many” other nations.

We will now when a peace agreement is signed with Israel and neighboring nations for the period of 7-YEARS, it fulfills a very important requirement that this is the week that Daniel was referring to.

There is another requirement that needs to be included in this agreement to validate it as Daniel’s prophecy. However, we have to do a little digging to flush this one out. Let’s return to that same scripture:

“and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease,”

Let’s first define “oblation” – it means “offering upon the altar”. So, Daniel is telling us that the sacrifices from the Jewish people, which have to occur in a temple, will stop midway through the 7-year period.

The Jewish people have not had a temple for the past 2000 years. They have not been able to offer sacrifices ever since the temple of Solomon was destroyed in the year 70 AD. They are not currently offering sacrifices today, but will need to start in order to fulfill this prophecy.

Here’s the important part now… There MUST be a new temple built, in order for the Jewish people to once again begin sacrificing animals upon the alter in that temple. And as Daniel says in his prophecy, these sacrifices will stop half way through the 7-year Tribulation Period.

So now, with this now understood information, the peace agreement must contain the language for a new temple to be built in Israel, likely upon the Temple Mount, which was where the Solomon Temple once stood.

Now we have three ways to validate this peace agreement:

• It will be between Israel and neighboring nations
• For the period of 7-years
• It will allow a temple to be built in Israel.

When all three of these things are included, you will know that this is the agreement Daniel was referring to. You will also know that the final 7-years on earth has just begun… “The Tribulation Period”

There is currently such an agreement coming to be right now. You can refer to President Trumps “20-point Peace Plan” as well as the “Abraham Accords” for specific information.

The End of the 70th Week

At the end of the final seven years:

• Jesus Christ will return in glory (Revelation 19).
• The Antichrist and his followers will be judged.
• Christ will establish His Millennial Kingdom, bringing in everlasting righteousness—completing Daniel 9:24.

When you have an understanding of Daniels 70 Weeks Prophecy, you begin to realize the significance of the time that we are in. It is my firm belief that this Tribulation Period will begin in the next few weeks or months, and most surely in the year 2025.

the 7-year Tribulation Period will be VERY Difficult, and I suggest that you avoid it. But how can you do that? The answer is called the Rapture. I invite you to learn all about this sacred event, and see that you qualify to be included in God’s rescue plan that He has for His followers.
