If You’re Still Holding This Much Silver After The Crash — June 8th Triggers The Next Silver Panic

After soaring past $115–$120 per ounce in late January 2026, the spot price of silver has steadily declined. As of mid-June 2026, silver is trading between $64 and $68 per ounce.  Silver suffered a steep drop during the first full week of June. This was heavily accelerated by a stronger-than-expected U.S. jobs report showing 172,000 nonfarm jobs added in May. This data signaled to the market that the Federal Reserve will likely keep interest rates higher for longer, increasing the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding precious metals. Reignited Middle Eastern hostilities and shifting expectations around international conflicts have heavily impacted pricing. Investors are balancing a stronger U.S. dollar against the safety appeal of bullion, resulting in choppy trading.

During sharp price drops, physical delivery demand often surges on the COMEX, even as “paper” silver contracts sell off. Commentators use this friction to argue that physical shortages will eventually trigger an explosive upward panic.  Despite investment banks like UBS lowering their near-term targets to $80–$85 per ounce due to a narrowing supply deficit, silver remains structurally undersupplied. Heavy demand from green technologies, solar arrays, electric vehicles, and emerging tech infrastructure continues to drain above-ground stockpiles.

While short-term technical indicators suggest silver could face further downward pressure toward the $58–$62 support levels, major institutions like BlackRock and J.P. Morgan maintain a strong outlook. Analysts broadly expect silver to find its footing and potentially surpass $80 per ounce by the end of 2026, with long-term targets scaling toward $100 by 2030.
