SA President Ramaphosa: A Humble Leader Who Embraces Unity and Responsibility

I strongly support what President Ramaphosa did by publicly apologizing to African leaders for the violence that recently resulted in the tragic loss of lives and the displacement of many foreign nationals. His gesture reflects humility, responsibility, and a genuine desire to foster unity across the continent.

We accept President Ramaphosa’s apology wholeheartedly, and I encourage other Africans to do the same. His leadership demonstrates that he is not xenophobic; rather, he recognizes the importance of solidarity and cooperation among African nations. The actions of anti-immigrant groups, which have caused harm and unrest, are unjust and harmful. They put South Africa’s reputation and economic stability at risk, and they are a disservice to the very people they claim to protect.

President Ramaphosa’s intelligence and foresight are evident in his understanding that South Africa is not an isolated entity. Our country’s economic health is closely linked to our neighbors. Stability in the region benefits everyone, and fostering good relations is essential for growth and prosperity.

It is crucial that South African Police Services do not support vigilante groups harassing foreign nationals. Instead, law enforcement must uphold the rule of law by arresting those who engage in violence and discrimination. Anti-immigrant groups are destructive elements that threaten the progress we have made and seek to worsen the poverty and hardship faced by ordinary South Africans.

Housing foreign nationals should not be a source of harassment or discrimination. Many of these individuals are simply seeking safety and a better life. House owners should not be intimidated for providing shelter; instead, they deserve understanding and support.

Law enforcement agencies, including police and immigration authorities, must strictly enforce the law by requesting permits and passports from foreigners. Moreover, I call on the South African government to reopen and expedite the processing of asylum and refugee applications. Documenting undocumented immigrants and possibly charging a reasonable fee can help regulate the situation, reduce hostility, and address economic challenges through constructive engagement with neighboring countries.

Ultimately, we need a balanced approach—one that respects human dignity, promotes regional cooperation, and tackles the root causes of economic hardship. It is only through unity, understanding, and responsible leadership that South Africa can move forward and build a brighter future for all its citizens and neighbors.
