I Sold My Silver in January – Not Because It Was Expensive” | Rick Rule
Rick Rule has been saving in gold since the year 2000 – and he says he wants the gold price to go lower. Here is why, in his own words. Speaking at the Sydney Gold Conference, veteran resource investor Rick Rule lays out the arithmetic he says the US government cannot escape: about $185 trillion of private net worth against roughly $40 trillion of on-balance-sheet debt and $100-120 trillion of entitlement promises, a gap he puts near $45 trillion. He explains why he calls the CPI a lie, why he asks people to build their own cost-of-living index, and why a 10-year Treasury that looks like a positive real yield on paper can quietly make a lender poorer every year. He also explains the two precious-metals decisions people keep asking him about: why he bought silver in 2020 because it was hated rather than because it was cheap, and why he sold it in January when the hatred disappeared and the chart went hyperbolic. He closes with platinum – the metal China, Japan and Korea still treat as money – and with the rule he says decides who makes money in extractive industries: you can be a contrarian, or you can be a victim.
