Consumer complaints, quality issue prompts Alpro recall
A plant-based soy drink has been recalled in the Netherlands after reports of nausea and vomiting.
Danone Nutricia Nederland said a quality deviation was detected in one batch of shelf-stable 1-liter Alpro Soja Drinks . The implicated product has a best before date April 27, 2026, and batch code BD2625 between 7:59 and 11:41 am. It was produced in Belgium but distributed in the Netherlands and sold at Albert Heijn stores.
Two people reported nausea and vomiting, according to a notification on the European Commission’s Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF).
Alpro said in the majority of consumer complaints, only a taste deviation was reported, however, in a few cases, nausea was experienced. There is no risk to consumers who have already consumed the product.
“We regret this and are taking appropriate action to guarantee the high quality of our products,” said an Alpro statement.
After consulting with the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA), Alpro decided to withdraw the batch in question from the market.
Alpro said the affected batch remained in the storage tank slightly longer than usual during production. This resulted in longer exposure to air, which affected the taste. The issue only became apparent after the product left the factory and during the distribution process.
