FDA Continues Investigation of Outbreaks
The Food and Drug Administration is investigating a new E. coli outbreak and has closed an investigation into another.
The E. coli outbreak is linked to Raw Farm LLC’s raw milk cheddar cheese. So far there are seven confirmed patients from California, Texas and Florida. The FDA has asked the company to recall the implicated products but Raw Farm has refused to do so.
Of the seven patients, two have been hospitalized, but no deaths have been reported. Four of the patients are 3 years old or younger. Of three patients who have been interviewed so far, all three ate Raw Farm raw milk cheddar cheese before becoming ill.
In other outbreak news, the FDA is reporting that the patient count in a Salmonella Newport outbreak continues to grow. The count now stands at 57, up from 54 a week ago. The FDA has not reported the patients’ ages or where they live.
The cause of the outbreak, which was first posted on Feb. 26, remains undetermined. The FDA has begun traceback and sampling, but has not reported what food is being traced or tested.
For an outbreak of Salmonella Saintpaul traced to mangoes, the FDA has closed its investigation. The outbreak was first reported Dec. 3, 2025. As of March 18 this year there had been 56 patients identified.
Based on patient interviews and epidemiological investigation, the FDA and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention determined mangoes to be the source of the specific pathogen making people sick.
However, by the time the outbreak source was determined, the mangoes were past shelf life and not available for sale. The FDA did not reveal what brand of mangoes were involved.
