Austria: Schoolyard Bullying Taken to New Level
Schoolyard bullying has always been with us, I guess, but at least I was never threatened with death when I was a kid. Over in Austria, a couple of weeks ago, a 14-year-old boy was beaten and threatened with death by two schoolmates, ages 13 and 14, before being forced to hand over his jacket. The 14-year-old has been charged since that’s the legal age of criminal responsibility in Austria. The bully boys are reportedly Afghan and Syrian.
In recent years, we have reported on similar cases of kids being bullied and beaten in European schools by migrant children, most notably in Germany and Sweden.

Shock in Vienna: 14-year-old threatened with death between school and home
A 14-year-old boy on his way home from school in the middle of January in Vienna-Doebling was attacked by two boys the same age.
The boy was beaten, threatened with death, and had to hand over his jacket, Julia Schick, police spokeswoman, reported on Thursday. Two suspects, ages 13 and 14, have since been identified.
The two boys reportedly followed the student on 16 January around 1 pm as he left the school building. He reportedly only knew them casually, the victim later reported. The boys demanded that he go with them. Then the Afghan and the one-year-old Syrian attacked the boy.
Robbery investigators from the State Criminal Police identified the two suspects. The teenager, of legal age for criminal responsibility, was provisionally arrested per orders of the Vienna State Prosecutor’s office. “He refused to make any statement” and was taken to a detention facility, the spokeswoman said.
