LAPD will not enforce California’s federal agent mask ban

It’s a California law, federal law enforcement officers are banned from wearing masks while on duty, but the Los Angeles Police Department doesn’t plan to enforce it.

Police Chief Jim McDonnell said that, while he is frustrated by the way immigration enforcement has been handled, one armed agency approaching another armed agency to create conflict doesn’t make sense.

Chief McDonnell said that the state’s federal mask ban is not a good public policy decision, and it wasn’t well thought out.

The ban on face coverings, known as the “No Secret Police Act,” was introduced following immigration raids across Southern California that began last summer.

The Trump Administration is also challenging the ban, which went into effect on January 1.

There were a few whines from the Chief about the way things are being done regarding illegal immigration, and, he’s pretty much a politician at that rank, but, he knows there is zero chance the LAPD would be able to enforce the law on federal agents. You know most of the other law enforcement agencies in the state have zero intention of enforcing the law. It would be a losing proposition. Attempt to arrest federal officers in the course of doing their jobs while letting actual criminals go because they know prosecutors won’t prosecute? And potentially being arrested themselves for interfering? Especially when most of the officers will be Conservatives, even in very liberal cities.
