The inaptly named activist Emma Smart tried to rescue a lobster from the Catch at the Old Fish Market in Dorset, England by stealing it and casting it to its doom in a nearby harbor. The restaurant’s owner and manager, Anthony Cooper, spoke to LBC in April and explained that the restaurant kept two lobsters in a tank near the front of the establishment. The pair, named Reggie and Ronnie, were pets that had lived in the tank for about 2½ years for “educational purposes” for children. …
Cooper noted that the lobsters were used to warmer water in the tank, so the harbor’s chilly waters were likely fatal. … He also added that the remaining lobster died shortly after the incident, because of stress and loneliness.
The criminal’s punishment consisted of an 8-month conditional discharge and a restraining order forbidding her from coming near the restaurant for a while. That is, there was no punishment.
