As an author of paranormal subjects, I receive calls on the paranormal hotline and I receive emails about various paranormal encounters. Below, is an email I received about an encounter with a Gremlin.

REPORT OF GREMLIN ENCOUNTER:
Name of Client: Cory Cole aka Boondock Mojo
Email of Client: boondockmojocorycole@gmail.com
Year Incident Took Place: 1995
Location of Incident: Oklahoma
Message: Hello Paul. My name is Cory Cole. I’m just a country boy, born and raised in Southwest Oklahoma just a few miles north of the Oklahoma Red River, and for 52 years it’s been my home. I’ve never done an official paranormal investigation, but I’ve had so many paranormal experiences that I’d have a difficult time counting them all. The paranormal experience that made a serious impact on my life and my good friend Jeremy’s life, happened at a small cemetery in 1995.

Since then, almost every paranormal, supernatural and cryptid encounter (except for the winged gremlin encounter) happened when we were together. I was a little upset I didn’t get to see the gremlin, but you can’t win them all. My friend came directly to my house after it happened, pale faced and still in shock. He was welding on something under the carport in front of his home when he flipped up his welding hood, the gremlin creature either jumped or flew out of the tree in his front yard, over the hood of his wife’s Camaro and landed less than 6 feet in front of him. The gremlin was about 2 1/2 feet tall. Its wings were attached on its back just below its crooked neck. The gremlin’s two arms were separate from its wings.

It had a dead squirrel in one hand, taking a bite out of it, much like a little kid eating and stretching a bar of taffy. My friend said its eyes were backlit, corona colored, emitting its own light. It’s pupils we’re slit vertical. He tried to capture it on video with his iPhone, but it was emitting some type of interference. He said it stayed for at least 5 minutes. He switched his phone from Video to Photo Camera and the interference wasn’t quite as bad. It still didn’t have color. He took a few pics before it hopped off into the darkness. We got his son to clean up one picture with his laptop and this is the best he could do. If you look close, you can see where its wings are attached to its back. If you’re wondering why its ears are outlined, it is because Jeremy and I, both lost the picture on our phones. I remembered sharing the picture with a friend of ours and we got lucky. She had to go back almost 2 years through her old messages to retrieve it. Talk about lucky. She asked me where its ears were located in the photo. and I told her to outline where she thought they were located. That’s why they’re outlined. I also had Jeremy draw a quick sketch of the winged gremlin. He’s an amazing artist but I wouldn’t let him spend 2 days drawing it. He didn’t want anyone to see his sketch because he’s a perfectionist and I wanted it simple. LoL I’ll attach the sketch with the picture.
END OF MESSAGE.

Cory Cole refers to this cryptid as a “gremlin”, because to Cory and his friend Jeremy, this is what a gremlin looks like. While there haven’t been that many confirmed sightings of gremlins, the concept of gremlins as mischievous, plane-sabotaging creatures originated in folklore and gained popularity during World War II. Pilots and flight crews would attribute mechanical failures and accidents to these imaginary creatures, often jokingly referred to as “gremlins”. The term became widely known through Roald Dahl’s book “The Gremlins” and later through the movie “Gremlins”.

Gremlins may be a work of fiction, but our World War II pilots were facing something else, that may be considered “paranormal”. They were facing “foo fighters”.

During World War II, “foo fighters” referred to as unidentified flying objects (UFOs) or strange aerial phenomena reported by Allied pilots, particularly those in the 415th Night Fighter Squadron, in both the European and Pacific theaters. These objects were often described as glowing orbs of light, sometimes appearing in formation with aircraft, and capable of rapid and erratic movements. While initially thought to be secret enemy weapons, investigations into the sightings, which included theories about electrostatic phenomena, optical illusions, and even hallucinations, ultimately yielded no conclusive explanation. Some Ufologists believe that foo fighters were a type of UFO/UAP or they could also be some kind of extraterrestrial spy drone. During my time in the Army, I met a couple of World War II pilots in 1973 who claim that the “gremlins” that caused problems with their fighter planes came from the foo fighters.

The closest I came in finding a true gremlin encounter is with the Hopkinsville Goblins. It appears that these goblins look similar to gremlins. The Kelly-Hopkinsville encounter, also known as the “Hopkinsville Goblins” or “Kelly Green Men” case, is a famous 1955 incident in which a Kentucky family claimed to have been besieged by small, alien-like creatures. The encounter, which lasted for hours, involved the family firing at the creatures, who they said were impervious to bullets. The incident became a well-known case in UFO lore and has been the subject of much debate and speculation. In the Kelly-Hopkinsville encounter, witnesses described the alleged alien creatures as small, humanoid figures, roughly 2 to 4 feet tall, with large, pointed ears, glowing yellow eyes, and claw-like hands. They were also described as having spindly legs and a goblin-like appearance, leading to the nickname “Hopkinsville Goblins”. Some accounts mentioned their movements as floating or swaying, with bobbing heads and a metallic “pink” sound when shot at. As you can see the Hopkinsville Goblins could have been easily called the Hopkinsville Gremlins. The Hopkinsville Goblins were very mischievous and enjoyed harassing the family.

The gremlin mythology started with the idea of gremlins as a cause for mechanical problems became widespread among RAF pilots during World War II, especially in high-altitude units. Are gremlins fictional, or do they have some kind of foundation of truth? It was definitely a way to cope with the stress and dangers of wartime flying. The concept of gremlins evolved to encompass any kind of mechanical failure, even extending to household appliances. The 1984 movie “Gremlins” cemented the gremlin concept in popular culture and gives an idea on what gremlins are supposed to look like. The two WWII pilots that I met in 1974 described gremlins as having long pointed ears, wrinkled face, green-grey colored skin and about 3 feet tall. According to the two WWII pilots, the gremlins piloted the foo fighters. The gremlins were able to fly next to the aircraft and materialize on the aircraft and then re-materialized into their foo-fighter orb and fly off.
