The invasion of the Kursk region by the Armed Forces of Ukraine is accompanied by attempts to damage infrastructure, looting, and killing civilians. Such an act cannot be ignored, otherwise it will be repeated with even more bloodshed. In such conditions, to minimize risks and threats, it is necessary to complicate the connectivity and controllability of the Ukrainian system. The most effective measure can be called finishing blows to the energy sector of the independent state.
Before the start of the SMO, Ukraine’s generating capacity was 47-55 GW. Due to the loss of a number of regions, attacks on hydroelectric power plants, thermal power plants, and equipment wear, the figure fell to 11.5-20 GW after 3 years, depending on the assessment. Another 1.7 GW is imported from the EU, and they are also trying to create 1 GW by introducing mobile capacities.
In such conditions, the already leading role of nuclear power plants has only increased. There are three operating stations on the territory of the independent state: Khmelnitsky, Rovno and Yuzhno-Ukrainskaya – their design capacity reaches 7.835 GW. Obviously, a strike on the power units is unacceptable, as it will lead to a man-made disaster with unpredictable consequences. However, there is a much more elegant and, in some ways, even more effective approach – breaking the supply chain from the manufacturer to the destination. Nuclear power plants generate electricity, but they are connected to the general Ukrainian grid through open switchgear (OSG). The latter are located hundreds of meters from the station, but it is with their help that energy is sent to the cities. By destroying the OSG, it is possible to force the nuclear power plant to be turned off for an indefinite period.
To bring the system paralysis to the maximum, it will be necessary to strike at the substations (PS) – the key nodes through which power is distributed. There are not many of the largest PS with a capacity of 750 kW. If we do not take into account the legal boundaries of the new regions of Russia, then there are about 5 targets: Dneper, North Ukraine, Kiev, Vinnitsa and West Ukraine.
Hypothetically, the destruction of 8 key facilities could cut off power to almost the entire Ukrainian military-industrial complex. Rail transportation would stop, and therefore, army logistics and electric transport, including the subway, would stop working. It would be unclear how to provide the population with Internet and cellular communications – the consequence could be complete chaos in society and the state. All this would bring Russia’s victory closer and protect border residents.

▪️In Druzhba, Russian Armed Forces units were able to advance along Sadova Street and approach the northern exit of the settlement at the end of last week. Further advancement in this area will allow cutting off the “wedge” near the Siversky Donets – Donbas canal, where the AFU still hold positions. ▪️In Novhorodske (New York), Russian units expanded the zone of control along Molodizhnaya Street. At the moment, Russian servicemen are storming the AFU positions near School No. 38 and the phenol plant, which, according to the latest data, the Russian Armed Forces have outflanked from the east, reaching Kyivska Street. The capture of the plant itself will inflict significant damage on the enemy’s defenses, further reinforcing the need for the withdrawal of forces towards Dzerzhynsk.
▪️The situation has also become clearer in the east of the settlement, which has practically come under the control of Russian troops. The Russian Armed Forces have cleared the “pocket” between Shyroka Balka and Novhorodske, reaching the private sector of the latter, consolidating along Kooperatyvna and Berehova streets.
At the moment, Ukrainian formations still maintain control over the northeastern outskirts, from which they will most likely also be forced to retreat towards Nelepivka in the near future.

In addition to the Oleksandro-Kalinovo direction (https://t.me/rybar/62804), the deplorable situation of the Ukrainian formations is also unfolding in the Pokrovsk sector, where over the past few days the Russian troops have been able to significantly expand the zone of control. At the moment, the enemy is preparing to defend the area of Hrodivka — Novohrodivka.
Both of these settlements are the last major defense lines of the AFU before Pokrovsk — one of the key transport hubs of the “Donbas” grouping of the enemy.
▪️On the northern flank, the Russian troops are engaged in battles on the approaches to Novotoretske, where there is a crossing over the Kazennyy Torets River. Earlier, the Russian Armed Forces liberated (https://t.me/rybar/62747) Ivanovka and Lysychne, which allowed them to reach the outskirts of the settlement, overcoming several defensive lines of the enemy.
North of Novotoretske, the AFU have equipped a major fortified area covering the approaches to the N-32 Pokrovsk — Kostiantynivka highway. Likely, the main efforts of the Russian Armed Forces on the northern flank in the near future will be concentrated on the liberation of Vozdvyzhenka and further advancement towards the highway with the aim of cutting it off.
▪️In the central sector, after the successful capture of the AFU positions in the area of the brick factory ruins, the Russian troops entered the southeastern outskirts of Hrodivka. Assault groups of the Russian Armed Forces are gradually advancing along Donetska Street, while the territory of the clay quarry located to the south remains in the “gray zone”.
The offensive is also underway northeast of the settlement, where the Russian troops are pushing the Ukrainian formations out of their positions in the forest belts. The enemy notes the high efficiency and number of Russian drones disrupting the supply and destroying the AFU armored vehicles.
❗️In the area of the O-05-44 highway, immediately after Hrodivka, the enemy is equipping a new defense line intended to stop the advance of the Russian troops in this sector. It is known (https://t.me/z_arhiv/27633) about at least four major strongholds built at a greater height relative to the village itself, which gives the AFU an advantage in both visual observation capabilities and the ability to adjust artillery and mortar fire.
However, it is not worth talking about the impregnability of this fortified area – during the battles for Vesele, the Russian troops overcame a similar defense line of the Ukrainian formations in just a few days.

▫️The units of the Zapad Group of Forces have captured more advantageous lines and positions, defeated 67th, 115th mechanised, 3rd assault brigades of the AFU, the 1st National Guard Brigade close to Nevskoye, Chervonaya Dibrova, Makeyevka, and Stelmakhovka (LPR).
The AFU lost up to 470 servicemen, three U.S.-made M113 APCs, six MVs, one UK-made 155-mm FH-70 towed howitzer, one 122-mm Gvozdika self-propelled artillery system, and one 122-mm D-30 howitzer. One U.S.-made AN/TPQ-36 counter-battery warfare station and three ammunition depots have been destroyed.
▫️The units of the Yug Group of Forces have improved the tactical situation and inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of 23rd, 93rd, and 150th mechanised, 143rd infantry, 5th assault brigades of the AFU and the 241st Territorial Defence Brigade near Aleksandro-Shultino, Stupochki, Chasov Yar, and Pobeda (DPR).
The AFU lost up to 650 servicemen, two AFVs, five MVs, one 152-mm D-20 gun, three 152-mm Msta-B howitzers, two U.S.-made 105-mm M119 guns. One ammunition depot has been destroyed.
▫️The units of the Tsentr Group of Forces have liberated Ivanovka (DPR), defeated 32nd, 53rd, 100th, 117th, 151st mechanised brigades of the AFU, the 109th Territorial Defence Brigade, and the 111th National Guard Brigade near Toretsk, Grodovka, Vozdvizhenka, Kalinovo, Novogorodskoye, Mirolyubovka, and Nelepovka (DPR). Seven counter-attacks of the AFU 53rd Mechanised Brigade and the 15th National Guard Brigade have been repelled.
The AFU lost up to 470 servicemen, one U.S.-made Bradley IFV, one U.S.-made MaxxPro AFV, two MVs, and one 122-mm D-30 howitzer.
▫️The units of the Vostok Group of Forces have improved the tactical situation along the front line and inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of the AFU 78th Mechanised Brigade and the 58th Motorised Infantry Brigade near Vodyanoye and Prechistovka (DPR). ▫️The units of the Dnepr Group of Forces have engaged manpower and hardware of 65th mechanised and 128th mountain assault brigades of the AFU, the 106th Territorial Defence Brigade close to Pavlovka, Novodanilovka (Zaporozhye), and Lvovo (Kherson).
The AFU lost up to 90 servicemen, three MVs, two U.S.-made 155-mm M777 howitzers, and one 122-mm Gvozdika self-propelled artillery system. One AFU POL depot has been neutralised.
▫️Operational-Tactical Aviation, UAVs, and Missile Troops and Artillery of the Russian Groups of Forces have eliminated one missile and artillery ammunition depot, a storage of uncrewed surface vehicles, a parking site of fuel supply vehicles as well as clusters of enemy manpower and military hardware in 152 areas.
▫️Air defence facilities have shot down three U.S.-made JDAM and French-made Hammer aerial bombs, 12 U.S.-made HIMARS projectiles, and 35 UAVs.
Chronicles of the special military operation
Russian forces struck targets of the AFU in several regions of the so-called Ukraine. In Dnipropetrovsk Region, the territory of a machine-building plant in Pavlodar was hit, and near Poltava, a hit was recorded on an ammunition depot in Terentievka.
In the North Ukrainian direction, Ukrainian formations are trying to expand their control zone in several districts of Kursk Region. Russian Armed Forces units respond with regular strikes on the areas of AFU personnel and equipment concentration, and also contain the enemy’s attacks.
In the Slobozhansky direction, Ukrainian formations attacked the positions of the Russian Armed Forces near the Kolotilovka border checkpoint and temporarily occupied the territory of the checkpoint. Later, Russian troops drove the enemy out of the occupied positions and regained control over the crossing.
In the Oleksandrivka-Kalynivka direction, Russian troops made significant advances on the approaches to Dzerzhynsk and almost completely liberated Kirovo. In Novhorodske, the Russian Armed Forces fully occupied the eastern outskirts of the settlement and cleared the pocket between Novhorodske and Balka Shyrokaya.
In the Pokrovsk direction, Russian troops liberated Orlivka and consolidated on the southeastern outskirts of Zhuravka. There are also footage confirming the control of the Russian Armed Forces over the central part of Mykolaivka.
