Censored by scared chickens: The day my blog’s stats disappeared

I never thought that my words, as an African writer, would send European authorities running like frightened chickens before a crow

 

There are many signs that a government or institution fears the truth: midnight arrests, secret files, frantic press conferences. However, nothing screams panic quite like disabling a blogger’s statistics widget. Yes, of all the tools in their arsenal, they went for the nuclear option, my pageviews. If fear had feathers, it would be clucking right now.

 

When I logged in and saw my stats mysteriously gone, I didn’t panic. I didn’t cry. I didn’t even restart my laptop, which, let’s be honest, solves 90% of life’s problems. Instead, I laughed. Because only someone trembling like a chicken in a thunderstorm would think that hiding numbers could hide the truth. It’s the digital equivalent of a child covering their eyes and believing they’ve become invisible.

 

Let’s be honest: if my blog were irrelevant, they would ignore it. If my words had no impact, they would scroll past them like spam emails from a Nigerian prince. However, disabling the stats? That’s a confession. That’s them saying, “Joel, your words are landing harder than we expected, and now we’re sweating like a chicken in a KFC queue.”

 

The funniest part is that removing the stats doesn’t stop people from reading. It doesn’t stop the truth from spreading. It doesn’t stop the questions from rising. All it does is confirm what I’ve known for years: when powerful people fear exposure, they behave in the most ridiculous ways. They don’t confront the truth; they hide behind a broken widget and hope nobody notices.

 

Just as I noticed, so will everyone else. If a giant search engine suddenly decides my visibility needs to be trimmed, all because my blog attracts too much traffic for their comfort, that’s not a technical glitch.

 

That’s fear wearing a badge. If the authorities weren’t scared, they wouldn’t be flapping around like chickens in a windstorm, and if they keep clucking, I’ll keep writing. Someone has to document this comedy show before the chickens start demanding anonymity.

 

To rule out any possibility that the disappearance of my blog’s statistics widget was a technical glitch, I checked the “Add a widget” section. There, I noticed something striking: every widget, Adsense, Featured Post, Blog Posts, and the rest, was fully available except one. Only the Blog Statistics widget had been deliberately disabled.

 

This selective removal makes it clear that the intention was to prevent readers from seeing the high traffic the blog continues to attract. The irony is that, even with reduced visibility, the blog still draws significant readership, and that seems to be the very provocation behind this action.

 

Many people already know who owns the Blogger site, and the fact that I am now openly publishing my difficult experiences on other platforms has drawn even more attention. By sharing these stories on websites that are free from censorship and oppression, readers have become curious about what is really happening behind the scenes.

 

That curiosity alone has contributed to the rise in my blog’s statistics, because people want to understand why a writer would be pushed to expose such treatment. Living in Europe for many years, I have seen how often a Black man is underestimated, no matter how clearly he speaks or how many warnings he gives.

 

I have repeatedly stated that I would publish every act of sabotage or discrimination directed at my blog, yet they continued as if my words carried no weight. Their underestimation is not only insulting but also strategically foolish. In a way, I pray they continue, because every attempt to silence me only strengthens my resolve and expands my audience.

 

Within months or years, they will eventually realize the consequences of their actions. They may lose users and credibility, but the readers will not lose the writer who brought them visibility. But I will not lose my voice. I will continue to document everything, and the truth will stand long after their attempts to suppress it have failed.

 

In the face of censorship, manipulation, and every attempt to dim the light of truth, I remain steadfast. History has shown that injustice may delay progress, but it cannot stop it, and therefore, in the spirit of those who fought before us, I echo the timeless words of Martin Luther King Jr.: “I shall overcome.”
