Paroodectes moves to the base of the marsupial sabertooths

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Paroodectes
(Figs 1, 2) has moved after recent housekeeping in the large reptile tree (LRT, 2324 taxa). Now it nests at the base of the marsupial sabertooths.

Note the almost slit-like naris and the postorbital bar, convergent with primates and oreodonts.

Figure 1. Middle Eocene Paroodectes compared to Paleocoen Hapalodectes. Note the almost slit-like naris and the postorbital bar, convergent with primates and oreodonts. Palaeocene Hapalodectes is a phylogenetically miniaturized taxon.

Paroodectes feisti
(Springhorn 1980, Middle Eocene) was described as a miacid member of the Carnivora. Here it nests at the base of the marsupial sabertooth clade. The genesis of late-surviving Paroodectes preceded Paleocene Hapalodectes.
