Above figure shows images taken from a thin section cut from particle C0068 collected from asteroid Ryugu. Red arrows and red rectangles in image c mark nano-sized fibrils looking like the micron-sized vessel elements. Each red rectangle contains more than one fibril connected to adjacent fibrils, just like how vessel elements are connected to adjacent vessel elements in order to form strands of vessels in wood tissues. Image c (Figure 1c) shows countless fibrils that are connected to form vertical strands of fibrils in cell wall, just like how wood cells are connected to form strands in wood tissues.

The original caption mentions “saponite; serpentine”. They are nano-sized fibrils that look like the shapes of micron-sized vessel elements. Like vessel elements, fibrils connect to form longitudinal (vertical here) strands of fibrils in the secondary wall of wood cells.
