Llandrindod Wells DCNN8314 & 8323 – Countdown to the 50th Anniversary celebrations of complete fabrication.
A few citizens of Llandrindod Wells may be mildly interested to know (to the second decimal place) that the annual average maximum and minimum temperatures of their fine Spa Town for the period 1990 to 2020 were 13.57°C and 5.49°C respectively. Many more will probably be concerned that, relative to the period 1960 to 1990, these temperatures have risen by 1.07°C from just 12.5°C for the maximum and by 0.81°C from 4.68°C for the minimum. Anthropogenic Global Warming clearly demonstrated by the authority of the Met Office hard data. The Local Authority has even issued a “Climate Emergency“
I suspect that the vast majority of those citizens would be astonished and even angered to discover that the above authoritative data from their government meteorological agency is, in fact, fabricated from thin air. There is no longer a weather station in Llandrindod Wells and the 30th September 2025 will mark the FIFTIETH anniversary of its closure. For half a century all its data has simply been conjured up from a computer programme that they are not allowed to know anything about.
The issue of Local Authorities declaring such emergencies is politically topical as the newly elected Reform UK led Kent County Council (my own area) has just rescinded its own former declaration to rightly save unnecessary council taxpayer expense. It is somewhat ironic that in the above Powys header above that “Cost of Living” has its own dedicated link.
The question of how well informed these Local Authorities are to make such decisions is highlighted by misleading data they are supplied with. For context, the Llandrindod Wells weather station (DCNN 8314) was originally installed in May 1935 at the location below for which the Met Office supplied WGS84 (GPS) coordinates.
52.23465 -3.37641
Archive digital temperature records (in common with most other older weather stations) are only given from 1959, however manuscript copies date from 1935 and confirm the above location.
It is not possible to exactly judge the quality of this site as I cannot find old enough imagery online but it is reasonable to assume those extensive trees are not a new addition.{If anyone can supply old images they would be most welcome}. This site was thus likely heavily sun and wind shade compromised – probably CIMO Class 5 with +/-5°C error margins. The site was closed down on the 31st March 1974 whereupon a new station (DCNN8323) started readings at the local secondary school 1.1 km distant as below.
52.24426 -3.38390
This new site did not last very long for unknown reasons and on the 30th September 1975 offered its last full days readings though oddly it was attended to in the morning of the 1st October to record that days minimum only – exact closure date perhaps the start of some controversy. All readings in Llandrindod Wells stopped…..permanently.
Absence of any actual readings, however, rarely troubles the UK Met Office who almost farcically Carry on Regardless. For quite inexplicable reasons senior Met Office meteorologists Daniel Hollis and Matthew Perry when compiling a list of weather stations to represent “Climate Averages” for “gridded cells” in 2004 opted for Llandrindod Wells which had already closed 29 years earlier. The methodology can be read in full here. Below is the header abstract.
If selecting a long defunct site to continue to conjure up (by a “peer reviewed process” no less) climate averages for an area seems rather strange then consider this, just 3 miles from Llandrindod Wells at Llysdinam is a venerable weather station that in 2019 was awarded centennial status by the World Meteorological Organisation.
A deliberate decision was made by our government agency’s senior “Climate Scientists” to ignore a longevity award winning site very close to the Llandrindod Wells area (that was established in 1882 and is still running to this day) in favour of one of their 103 selected “zombies” that originally died almost half a century ago. And not only that, if the public wanted to consider Llysdinam’s data for comparison, they would not be able to because…….they would be referred to the “approved” – Llandrindod Wells.
I challenge anyone or any public body to argue that this is an acceptable scientific process. To use defunct sites with invisible mathematical conjuring tricks to concoct “averages” in lieu of current available and observed data is more akin to alchemy or voodoo – it is certainly not acceptable science. But it does “prove” “Climate Change” and that is all that seems to matter to the Met Office, the real world does not get a look in.
