Meanwhile, the Yankees add even more firepower to a bullpen that’s already one of the league’s best.

Let’s not forget the other parts of this trade. Caleb Durbin is an intriguing infield prospect with speed, versatility, and an eye for the strike zone. His .269/.374/.407 slash line and 110 stolen bases in the minors show the potential for him to be a future contributor. And while $2 million in cash sweetened the deal for Milwaukee, make no mistake—this trade is all about Williams.

One ripple effect to watch: Luke Weaver’s role. Williams’ arrival likely shifts Weaver back into a setup role, which might feel unfair given how solid he’s been. But this is the Yankees, and fairness takes a backseat to winning. With Williams in the ninth, the Yankees are making it clear they’re all-in for a deep postseason run.
