Chicago Bears-Mike McCarthy news gets major backlash
The Chicago Bears biggest need will be filling the hole at their Head Coaching position and they could be in on this top choice for the position with their request for an interview.
The Chicago Bears and General Manager Ryan Poles will be very aggressive in their pursuit for a Head Coach this offseason and that proves to be true with the Chicago Bears requesting permission to interview the Dallas Cowboys Head Coach Mike McCarthy per Adam Schefter.

During his five seasons as the Dallas Cowboys Head Coach, Mike McCarthy has accumulated a record of 84-49, winning the NFC East twice, and making the playoffs three times in which the Cowboys lost all three times, twice in the Wild Card round and once in the Divisional round.
The 2024-2025 season was McCarthy’s worst season as the Cowboys Head Coach in which he went 7-10 and he lost his starting Quarterback in Dak Prescott after he had to have season ending surgery. With Jerry Jones and the Cowboys not showing any desire to retain Mike McCarthy after this season and him being in the last season of his deal, McCarthy will figure to be one of the most sought-after Head Coaches available.
According to ESPN Senior NFL Insider Adam Schefter the Chicago Bears have requested permission from the Cowboys to interview Mike McCarthy. So far, the Chicago Bears have not heard word back on whether or not they will be granted permission to interview McCarthy, but per Schefter he reports:
“If the Cowboys don’t allow permission this week, the Bears could interview McCarthy after his exclusive negotiating window with Dallas expires Jan. 14.”
