Chicago Bears officially request interview with Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator
The Chicago Bears interview request list continues to grow in the very beginning of this head coaching cycle. The front office requested a handful of interviews on Monday and are wasting no time at all on Tuesday either. Monday’s speaking requests or the Chicago Bears included the likes of Drew Petzing, Vance Joseph, Mike Kafka and even a call into the Dallas Cowboys to see if they could chat with Mike McCarthy.
The big announcement out off Halas Hall on Tuesday morning indicates that another offensive mind will officially be interviewing for the franchises’ head coaching vacancy.
The Chicago Bears have formally requested to interview Joe Brady
In a report from Adam Schefter on Tuesday morning, the Chicago Bears will be interviewing Brady for their major head coaching vacancy. The 35-year-old made the leap from the college game to the NFL in 2020 and has found success in the league rather quickly
Brady began his coaching career with William & Mary in 2013 as a linebackers coach. He then became a graduate assistant at Penn State in 2015 before getting his first taste in the NFL as an offensive assistant for the New Orleans Saints from 2017-2018.
The Pembroke Pines, FL native first became a known commodity thanks to his time with LSU in 2019 as the pass game coordinator and wide receivers coach. That Tiger offense took the college football world by storm en route to a dominant national title run with quarterback Joe Burrow running the show.
After the historic season being apart of the LSU offensive staff, Brady returned to the NFL as the offensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers from 2020-2021. When the dust settled during a rough era of Panther football, Brady landed back on his feet with the Bills and he has been there since.
Josh Allen saw his game improve drastically when Brady took over as the offensive coordinator during the 2023 campaign. It was visible of the super start quarterback that he struggled after the departure of Brian Daboll after he became the head coach of the New York Giants.
With Brady being able to help Allen get his game back on track, the Chicago Bears front office could easily see a correlation between that development and the success they are able to get out of Caleb Williams.
Joe Brady joins a competitive group of head coaching candidates for the Chicago Bears on both sides of the ball
Brady is not the first offensive minded candidate that the Chicago Bears have requested to talk to about the head coaching vacancy and he certainly will not be the last. Petzing of the Cardinals was requested by the front office on Monday, and Ben Johnson was of course one of the very first candidates that the team wanted to talk to.
Even Pete Carroll put his name in the mix on Sunday, saying that he “badly” wants the Chicago job. The former Super Bowl winning head coach even has assistants lined up if he were to get the role in the Windy City.
On the defensive side of the ball, Brady will compete with the likes of Mike Vrabel, Aaron Glenn, Brian Flores, Anthony Weaver and others. While the franchise should lean toward the offensive side of the ball for the next head coach, the front office is keeping all of their options open. Brady should be a solid candidate for the position based on his track record, where it goes from there is all dependent on his interview.
