Chicago Bears request interview one of the league’s worst offensive coaches

Chicago BearsThe Chicago Bears have requested to interview this unlikely candidate to fill their Head Coaching vacancy.

The Chicago Bears enter this offseason with having to fill their Head Coaching position which has been vacant since the Chicago Bears fired former Head Coach Matt Eberflus after their devasting Thanksgiving Day loss to the Detroit Lions in which he didn’t call a critical timeout.

Since that time many potential options have come into the fold to figure to be in the mix for the job such as former Seattle Seahawks Head Coach Pete Carroll as well as former Tennessee Titans Head Coach Mike Vrabel. Now, the Chicago Bears have asked to interview New York Giants Offensive Coordinator Mike Kafka per Ian Rapoport.

Mike Kafka entered this season in his third season as the New York Giant Offensive Coordinator and this had to be his worst season yet. In a year in which they started the year with Daniel Jones being their starting Quarterback to ultimately demoting him to a backup role after his poor performance. The Giants granted Jones his release after making this move. The Giants then turned to their hometown kid Tommy Devito to see if he could offer up a change and light a spark under their offense to having that never coming into being.

Mike Kafka and his offense for this season was ranked 30th in Total Offense (294.8), 28th in Passing (189.9), and middle of the pack for their Rushing Offense at 23rd (104.9) making them one of the worst in the NFL this season. As well as only scoring an average of 16.1 points per game, bringing in Kafka to pair with Caleb Williams who can be an offensive talent in the league one day would be a mistake.

The need for a Quarterback guru

The Chicago Bears don’t need to bring in the person responsible for one of the worst offensive in the NFL to their organization when they should look into finding a ‘Quarterback guru’ in order to help Caleb Williams in his development. That will prove to be important with the Bears having an offense ranked at the bottom of the league along with the Giants. Williams and the Bears will want to bounce back next year and be better than the disastrous 5-12 record. With offensive weapons in Caleb Williams, D.J. Moore, and Keenan Allen all being back next season and looking hungry to break the playoff drought, finding the right Head Coach to help lead them will be key.
