Chicago Cubs’ GM confirms that an effort was made to extend star outfielder

Chicago Cubs

The Chicago Cubs front office will be busy this upcoming offseason trying to keep some of their best bats around for the long haul. General manager Jed Hoyer made a big swing in acquiring Kyle Tucker from the Houston Astros back in December, and the trade has worked out well for the organization so far. Even though the right fielder has struggled over the last couple of weeks, he has made everyone around him in the order significantly better this season and his overall numbers have been impressive.

In 186 at-bats this season, Tucker is slashing .258/.371/.511 for an .882 OPS in 48 games. The 28-year-old has 10 homers and is one of four players on the team with 10 or more long balls this year. Tucker has also driven in 33 runs, which is third on the Cubs.

The front office has more than just Tucker to worry about paying this offseason. A budding star in the outfield has made a name for himself in his first full season at the big league level, and he isn’t slowing down anytime soon.

Chicago Cubs GM confirms push at extending Pete Crow-Armstrong

Hoyer made it known during his on-air appearance with 670 The Score on Tuesday that the organization did what they could to extend Crow-Armstrong, but the task at hand right now is the 2025 season for the 23-year-old outfielder.

“I’m sure at some point, we will revisit,” Hoyer said. “Right now, we’re letting him focus on the season.

Crow-Armstrong has exploded at the plate this season and has been a true game changer in the Cubs lineup. The former first-round draft pick has 12 home runs and has driven in 38 runs this year while slashing .282/.317/.569 for a .886 OPS in 48 games. PCA’s bat has come a long way this season, as the power aspect of his game was really the only thing that he was missing entering the offseason.

Crow-Armstrong’s ability to play strong defense, run well on the bases and throw runners out was never in question. His bat was the real difference between him being a good or a great player, and it appears that he has figured to have figured it out at the plate.

Pete Crow-Armstrong could be a superstar for the Chicago Cubs

The city of Chicago loves Pete Crow-Armstrong and he has taken on the role as a fan favorite this year. He has the personality to be a superstar in a major market, and his play has lived up to that so far in 2025. PCA played in 123 big league games a season ago and hit under .240 in 372 at-bats. He has more home runs so far this season than he did a year ago, and pitchers have yet to adjust to his power surge.

Crow-Armstrong has thrived in the leadoff left vacant by Ian Happ, who is returning from the IL for Tuesday night’s tilt against the Marlins. PCA will head back to the middle of the order, where he has also done well for himself this year.
