OTL: Amazing Offensive Effort Wasted in Loss

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

I know it feels like doomsday in Charm City. I know it feels like the Ravens are the same team we’ve seen over the last few years. I know we’re struggling to move on from the Week 1 loss in Buffalo.

BUT…

I am going to try to focus on the positive this week – at least for the most part.

First and foremost, despite the late-game turnover and inability to close things out, this fact remains:

From a rushing perspective, we saw the Ravens dominate once again. While it’s what we’d expect given the personnel and identity over the years, it’s important to note:

Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry continue to be the league’s most dangerous QB/RB combo, with the latter really showing out through 3.5 quarters:

Yes, the fumble was brutal and really shifted the momentum of the game. Still, fumbles are uncharacteristic for Henry and, as much as they suck, happen from time to time. Looking at Jackson’s performance, well, he’s still the electrifying player we’ve come to love. That’s on the ground and through the air:

Of course, the two can’t do it without strong O-Line play. While I’ve seen some valid complaints (especially about a certain #77), there were some bright spots, as well.

If we want to quickly look ahead, there could be a remedy for the #77 problem, too:

Meanwhile, Zay Flowers looked as if he’s taken another step forward:

It’s unfortunate that Flowers’ performance (and that of some others) was overshadowed by the loss, but there’s reason to believe the Ravens have finally landed themselves a true #1 receiver. And as a result, the offensive numbers look like this:

Obviously, the defense has to be better. But give credit where it’s due – Josh Allen and the Bills played well themselves, and they made plays when it mattered. There are still positives on the defensive side.

Notably, two rookies stood out up-front:

We were excited to see Green and Peebles in Week 1, and while they didn’t register much statistically, it doesn’t mean all is lost:

On the interior, Nnamdi Madubuike did register a sack, and he could have had more:

With Peebles and breakout candidate Travis Jones next to him, Madubuike might see fewer double teams than years past, resulting in the production we saw a few years ago. If that happens, look out.

The secondary is another story, but again, sometimes you have to tip your cap. There’s no doubt the unit needs to improve, but Allen played a great game, especially down the stretch. To me, the bigger issue is what the fans and media have been highlighting regularly over the last few days – Coaching:

Time will tell how this team will rebound, but one thing’s for sure: If the story remains the same over the course of the season and into the playoffs, fans will expect a change. Iceberg Slim raises an interesting point, too:

Sound off in the comments – Where do you stand on the Harbaugh conundrum and how much should Jackson take matters into his own hands?
