Ben Johnson provides key update for Kyler Gordon’s injury
With the opportunity to win five-straight games and get to 5-2 on the early season, the Chicago Bears fell flat on Sunday in Week 8, losing to the Baltimore Ravens. But even before the game, the Bears suffered a tough loss as nickel corner Kyler Gordon was placed on IR.
Gordon missed the first four games of the season dealing with a hamstring injury that flared up in training camp. After making his return in the Week 6 win over Washington, his injury flared up again this week. Now, he’s on injured reserve for a minimum of four more games.
But how long will he be out now?
Ben Johnson provides key Kyler Gordon update

Following Sunday’s loss in Baltimore, head coach Ben Johnson was asked about Kyler Gordon’s injury. He gave a short answer and didn’t reveal any specifics but he doesn’t expect it to be a long term thing.
“We are hoping it is going to be of the short-term variety, so we should be able to get him back,” Johnson said. “Yes, it is another soft-tissue injury that we are dealing with.”
Those soft tissue injuries are never an easy thing to deal with. Rushing a player back could further damage the injury and cost him more games. For Gordon, this injury popped up during the week of practice as he was a full participant on Wednesday before appearing as limited on Thursday and then out on Friday.
The Bears are hoping this isn’t a serious one as they agreed to a contract extension with Gordon this offseason. But so far, he’s only been available for two games which is not ideal.
Injury issues hitting Ben Johnson’s team

Gordon isn’t the only player dealing with injury issues on the Bears. Chicago is without defensive backs Jaylon Johnson (IR) and Tyrique Stevenson, forcing them to play backups in Week 8. But during the game they also were hit with some injuries as Johnson explained.
“[There were] a number of guys that didn’t make it through the end of that one. ‘Dom’ [Dominque] Robinson had an ankle [injury]. Shemar Turner had a knee [injury]. Luther Burden [III] had a concussion, and then ‘O.Z.’ [Olamide Zaccheaus], we are still taking a look at his knee right there,” Johnson said. “That’s what we have for injuries.”
With the Bears already having their bye week in Week 5, there isn’t a week off to help get healthy. They will now have to figure out a way with the next man up to go out and win some key football games they have over the next few weeks. If not, this could go down hill in a hurry.
