BOLD PREDICTIONS: Ravens v. Rams
The Baltimore Ravens (1-4) aim to snap a three-game skid when they host the Los Angeles Rams (3-2) on Sunday at M&T Bank Stadium (1 p.m. kickoff). Depleted by injuries to standout players over the past several weeks, the Ravens will once again face another team that won a 2024 division title (their fifth such opponent in the season’s first six games: W1 at Buffalo, W3 vs. Detroit, W4 at KC and W5 vs. Houston).
The Ravens are 6-1 all time against the Rams, including a 4-1 mark in Baltimore. These teams last met in December 2023, when the Ravens won a thrilling overtime contest via a walk off 76-yard PR-TD by WR Tylan Wallace. Under head coach John Harbaugh, the Ravens are 4-1 against the Rams (2-1 in Baltimore).

The Ravens will do their very best to take the air out of the football and milk the clock to keep the ball out of the hands of Matthew Stafford and the high-powered Rams offense. The expected rains and winds will certainly invite it, but a tsunami might not be enough to temper Sean McVay’s eagerness to test the Ravens 31st-ranked pass defense.
Making the temptation to throw even more irresistible is the Ravens pass rush, or lack thereof. Eric DeCosta just traded away the player who has the team’s most QB pressures this season and their best pass rusher is on IR with a season-ending neck injury. The Ravens hope to go into their bye week at (2-4). Could you imagine saying this 6 weeks ago? That they’d be happy to be (2-4) at the break? How the might have fallen. Will they continue to plummet?
- Cooper Rush limits his chances for mistakes (he had 3 INTs last week) and throws the ball just 21 times, completing 12 for 124 yards and 1 TD
- Derrick Henry totes the rock 24 times for 92 yards and 1 tuddy.
- Zay Flowers corrals 6 of Rush’s 12 completions for 72 yards and a score set up by a Kyren Williams fumble.
- The inclement weather triggers Tyler Loop who will miss a FGA and a PAT
- Stafford throws for 310 yards and 3 TDs.
- Puka Nacua hauls in 9 passes for 120 yards and 2 scores.
- The Rams outgain the Ravens 410 yards to 240.
A big special teams play by the Ravens, and the Williams fumble keeps it closer than the stat sheet might suggest, but Zach Orr updates his resume, nevertheless.

There’s been a lot of theorizing about the moves the Ravens made this past week and whether the transactions would make them appear to be buyers or sellers. Regardless of what the intent is, if you’re asking yourself that question, usually it means that the team is not a serious contender to begin with. The last three weeks have shown that this is almost certainly the case for the Ravens, and regardless of availability of the players who make their way back from injury, the players on the field only get you so far if the scheme and play-calling are bad. Baltimore is a home underdog against a Rams team with firepower on both sides of the ball. This game is not going to go well.
— Cooper Rush gets the nod as Lamar Jackson continues to recover, as the coaching staff opts to allow LJ to get continuous rest through the BYE. As a result, Jared Verse spends the entire afternoon taking Rush’s lunch. Verse notches 2.5 sacks and a forced fumble, planting Daniel Faalele on his wallet twice en route.
— I wish I was kidding: Puka Nacua could put up 250 yards in this game. He probably won’t, because by the time he reels off a few big catches, the game is already out of hand, but he could be out there just playing catch with Matt Stafford as he burns the injury-depleted secondary. The only times Nacua struggles to come down with the ball are routes when Nate Wiggins has to grab a handful of jersey to prevent a touchdown, drawing Defensive Holding or DPI.
— Enough of that, let’s talk about some things the Ravens might do ok. Keaton Mitchell will continue to get his legs back under him and get 50+ on the day. Trenton Simpson will get some additional work off the outside and record a few QB hits. Let’s throw in a fun one and say one of the undrafted rookies comes down with a late interception in garbage time.
The beatings will continue until morale improves.

This game is full of uncertainty due to the weather. As of now, it is likely to be raining throughout the game and it could be heavy at times. It’s also supposed to be windy, which could affect the kicking games.
On paper, the Rams should win this game but the Ravens are likely to have some of their guys back, although not Lamar. The weather could also help neutralize things depending on how bad it is.
We just saw the Rams lose to a decimated 49ers team but that likely also means they will be even more focused this week and they are on extra rest.
What does Harbaugh and the coaching staff get out of these guys this week? Is there motivation to save the season?
If they can pull off a win this week and then get healthy, I think the team makes a big run.
Even with a loss, they can still make the playoffs, like the Colts did in 2018, but obviously it’s harder.
I will predict a Rams win but I’m not as down on the Ravens losing as I was after the Texans game. This is a week to week league and with more guys coming back, the Oweh trade perhaps making a difference and the weather, maybe the Ravens finally have some luck going their way.

I’ve never been less confident in the Ravens to win a game since the pre-Lamar era. Ever since Lamar took over, there’s never been a game I just didn’t feel great about. That ends this week.
There’s been no chatter about who will be under center for the Ravens this week, so I assume it’ll be Cooper Rush, but I really would like to see Tyler Huntley.
I’m scared of what Puka Nacua and Kyren Williams will do to this defense. If the defensive line continues to give the opposing quarterback an hour to get rid of the football, the Ravens will get torn apart once again.
Derrick Henry needs to be a focal point of the offense this week. He should get 20 carries this week regardless of the outcome and he will either miraculously carry the Ravens to a victory or we will lose as we would have if he barely touched the football.
I always pick the Ravens, but not this week.

Another day, another week without Lamar Jackson under center for the Ravens.
Whether it’s Cooper Rush or Tyler Huntley, I can’t predict anything else but a loss this week.
— Cooper Rush struggles against a ferocious Rams defense and throws a couple of picks.
— We see Tyler Huntley in this game, but he doesn’t spark the offense.
— The edge rush does get some pressure on Matthew Stafford with Mike Green recording a sack.
— The defense makes it a little closer than last week for a bit, but it is in vain as the offense keeps putting them back on the field, and the Rams still put up 30+ points.
Ravens lose big, and fire Zach Orr during the bye week.

I commend Eric DeCosta for trying to do everything he can to dig the Ravens out of the hole they’re in. However, I think this year the hole is deeper than last year and it’s not going to be magically fixed overnight. I think the best that we can hope for is that there are a few punts thrown in there by the Rams and they won’t score on every single drive. That’s how low the bar is right now. Maybe Cooper Rush or Tyler Huntley can muster up any sort of offense and score some points early in the game to at least make it close.
I think the Ravens have no shot this week and my only hope is that it’s not as embarrassing as last week. Any improvement at all should give us fans some small glimmer of hope for after the bye week.

It’s nice to hear that some of the injured Ravens are on the practice field again. That said, the two most important issues are still on the table.
A. Lamar Jackson is out.
B. The coaching staff still doesn’t understand what is wrong with the scheme. This is evident by their admission that they thought the Texans would be a “get right” game. They were way off, so I don’t see how it would be any different this week.
I hope I’m wrong, but I’m going to stick with the status quo, and the status quo is a team that doesn’t play to their opponent’s formations and has zero flexibility.

I tend to be very optimistic, but after last week’s “performance” by the Ravens, I don’t think this team is capable of winning a game where Lamar Jackson is not the starting quarterback, and the Rams are a much better team than the Texans. I do think the Ravens will play better than last week (a very low bar), but I don’t think they can get the W this week. Here are my predictions.
— Cooper Rush will get the start, but both he and Tyler Huntley will see snaps.
— Ravens will rush for over 100+ yards (combination of Henry, Hill, Mitchell, and Huntley)
— There will be at least one change on the Ravens offensive line. I think Corey Bullock and/or Ben Cleveland will step in for Andrew Voorhees and/or Daniel Faalele.
— On defense, expect Alohi Gilman, Kyle Hamilton, and Malaki Starks to be on the field at the same time quite a bit.
— At linebacker, Trenton Simpson will get some reps at OLB and Jay Higgins will see some reps at ILB.
Ravens keep it relatively close, but can’t keep up in the end against a very good Los Angeles Rams team.
