Chicago Bears K Jake Moody makes strong statement after game-winner
The most important player on the field for the Chicago Bears in Week 6 wasn’t on the 53-man roster. With Cairos Santos battling a quadriceps injury, the Bears elevated Jake Moody from the practice squad to the active roster for their game against the Washington Commanders on “Monday Night Football.

Weeks after the 2023 third-round pick was released by the San Francisco 49ers for missing too many kicks, Moody made four of his five field goal attempts, including a long of 48 yards. No kick was bigger than the 38-yard field goal he made with time expiring to give Chicago a 25-24 win in front of 64,457 fans at Northwest Stadium.

Following the game, Moody thanked his new teammates for believing in him.
“It feels amazing to get all that support after the game from all my teammates,” Moody said on the ABC broadcast. “I got here not too long ago, but for everybody to embrace me and take me in as one of their own, it’s an amazing feeling.”

Quarterback Caleb Williams and running back D’Andre Swift didn’t know who Moody was until he was on the sideline Monday night. He made a big impact on the team in his first game with the Bears.
Moody said he’s happy to have a fresh start with Chicago.
“I mean, it’s always good to have a fresh start, you know,” Moody said. “And I always believed in myself, believed in my teammates, and, you know, shout out to Scott (Daly) and Tory (Taylor). They made that operation really easy on me.
“The same with the o-line up front protecting great on that last one. You can’t draw it up any better.”
Moody blocked out negative thoughts
Moody said he blocked out any thoughts he had about his time in San Francisco on Monday night so he wasn’t nervous on his final kick.
“You can’t dwell on the past,” Moody said. “You got to move on and focus on the next kick.”
Santos was named a team captain before the season. But the Bears might have a kicking competition after Moody put the league on notice on Monday night. As a practice squad member, any team in the league can sign Moody.
