NFL: Chicago Bears Rookie Minicamp

The Chicago Bears fell to 4-3 on the year with a tough 30-16 road loss at Baltimore in Week 8. The disappointing loss ended the Bears four-game win streak and now there are some questions surrounding Ben Johnson’s team after that performance.

But the loss also came with a cost in terms of a few injuries.

During Sunday’s game, the Bears saw a handful of players leave early with a few not returning to the game. Now, 24 hours later we have some news regarding a few of those injuries and it’s not very good.

The head coach told the media on Monday that rookie defensive lineman Shemar Turner suffered a torn ACL and will miss the rest of the season.

“Injury-wise, Dom Robinson is going to be out a few weeks here with a high ankle,” Johnson said. “We’ve got Shemar who’s got an ACL, so he’ll be out for the season. We’ve got Luther in concussion protocol right now. And then we’ve got OZ who’s day to day.”

In addition to Turner, the Bears will be without Dominique Robinson as well. He has a high ankle sprain that he suffered on the opening kickoff, missing the rest of the game.

For Turner, he had an injury throughout the offseason and training camp that held him back a little bit. He only played in five games, being active beginning in Week 3 against the Dallas Cowboys. He struggled to make an impact, recording just six total tackles and two tackles for loss.

As for Robinson, he has appeared in seven games and has recorded 7 total tackles and 1.5 sacks. He recorded his first full sack this year since Week 1 of the 2022 season.

With Chicago’s pass rush already struggling, losing two players does hurt the depth. But overall, the Bears really need to get that pass rush going and get to the quarterback. They had just three total pressures against the Ravens, so we should see it be a focus moving forward.

Some potential help on the way for the Chicago Bears?

With the news of the defensive line losing two players for depth, there was some positive news as well from Johnson’s presser on Monday. He told the media that the team is activating defensive end Austin Booker off of injured reserve.

The Bears had 21 days to activate him after opening up that window a few weeks back. But Booker wasn’t activated as Chicago felt like they needed more time for him.
