Insider reveals why Chicago Bulls cannot win NBA Finals

The Chicago Bulls probably aren’t going to win the NBA Finals this year. There have been only 16 teams that have ever even made the NBA Finals after not making the playoffs the year before. Most of those had star power or won the offseason. That’s not really true on either count for the Bulls. Still, anything is theoretically possible, but one insider made the case for why a Bulls Finals win isn’t.

Why the Chicago Bulls won’t be a champion this season

The Chicago Bulls have gone 164-164 over their last four seasons, and very little about the 2025 offseason suggests a sudden title run is in the cards. Bleacher Report’s Dan Favale made the case against every single team winning the title. Chicago’s wasn’t that difficult to argue. “Treating the Chicago Bulls as a playoff hopeful undermines everything they’ve built. They can’t have the play-in tournament named after them if their season too often extends past it,” Favale wrote jokingly.

He admitted that those jokes would be tiresome if they weren’t also very accurate. He even likened the Bulls to the Josh Giddey $100 million contract. It’s slightly above average, but it’s not necessary. That is, in a nutshell, what the Bulls represent.

“Credit head coach Billy Donovan for implementing an aesthetically pleasing offense, and to the front office for drafting Matas Buzelis in 2024,” Favale continued. “I’m excited to see how the organization ruins both this season, presumably by mandating Nikola Vučević lead the league in touches at the nail until February in order to inflate his value enough for executive vice president Artūras Karnišovas to extend him.”

Favale believes the Bulls are positioned to be active at the deadline since they have “expiring contracts galore” to move off of. But can they do that well, or will they inexplicably buy and ruin their future? Either way, the team is not remotely set up for immediate success. “There is something to be said for continuity. The Bulls are nothing if not consistent. Their quest to stay in the bottom-of-the-middle, much like the Patrick Williams contract, transcends time and space,” the analyst concluded.

The Bulls are seemingly beginning to start truly building for the future. But that means nothing for 2025-26. They’re still good enough not to finish in the basement, but even a career year from every single player wouldn’t get the Bulls a Finals trophy.
