Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson takes shot at hall of fame quarterback

Ben Johnson and the Chicago Bears defeated the Washington Commanders in a thrilling 25-24 victory on Monday Night Football. The Bears won off a Jake Moody 38-yard game-winning field goal thanks to a Jayden Daniels fumbled handoff at midfield.
While it wasn’t all pretty for the offense, the run game finally broke loose, and Caleb Williams was able to make the crucial plays when needed most. Williams threw for 252 yards and 1 touchdown pass. He also ran for a one-yard touchdown.
Williams clearly could’ve had a better game. However, he did enough to win the game. The Bears’ quarterback has dealt with much antagonism since the start of his career. The criticism seemed to continue during Monday Night’s game.
ESPN/ABC announcer and former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman has been under fire for the way he critiqued the Bears quarterback and the team throughout Monday’s broadcast on ABC. Aikman’s criticisms of the Bears have apparently been noticed by the Bears’ head coach.
The Chicago Bears’ head coach took a shot at Troy Aikman
In an interview on ESPN 1000 with Bears announcer Jeff Joniak, Johnson took a swipe at Aikman and potentially his broadcast partner Joe Buck. Johnson said with a smile, “It sounded like from the game the other night, that a few people weren’t particularly pleased with how we are winning right now.

There were multiple instances where it seemed Aikman was overly critical of Williams. During the second drive of the game, Aikaman said that Williams looked “off” early in the game. He criticized multiple completed throws of Williams throughout the broadcast.
On multiple passes, Aikman said the throws were either inaccurate or late. While many believe some of the criticism was fair, many believe it was hypocritical due to the constant praising Aikman gave to Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels.
Chicago Bears fans were livid over Aikman’s critiques of Caleb Williams
Since Monday’s victory, many Bears fans on social media have expressed frustration at Aikman for the potential biased commentary. There were some pretty hilarious reactions to come out of this as well.

Troy Aikman: “That was a late throw by Caleb Williams.”
This throw looks pretty perfect to me.

Did a little research. As we all know, Troy Aikman loves to pick apart Caleb’s game. Well, Aikman as a rookie came into a situation very similar to CW’s, only he had a top coach right from the start. But guess what? He sucked! Completed 53% of his throws and threw 18 picks to 9…

Joe Buck: and that pass will fall incomplete for Williams
Troy Aikman: and quite honestly Joe it makes me sick to even look at this guy. Every pass he throws disgusts me.

One last thing:
I NEVER want to hear Troy Aikman call a Bears game again.

What I love about this so much is that Troy Aikman was eulogizing the #Bears as if the game was lost.
He’s a loser and was trying to pass off that energy to the Bears. Screw him! https://t.co/ZZbHEjgTEy— Barroom Net | Aldo Gandia (@BarroomNetwork) October 14, 2025
The reaction that the Pro Football Hall of Famer is getting is completely brutal.
