Chicago Bears Week 12 opponent Aaron Rodgers believed to have broken hand

The Chicago Bears have won three games in a row against the Cincinnati Bengals, New York Giants, and Minnesota Vikings.

All three teams have dealt with quarterback issues, though backup quarterback Joe Flacco had a career game against Chicago. The Bears were able to stop Russell Wilson after he entered the game for Jaxson Dart, who suffered a concussion.

J.J. McCarthy dealt with an injury to his throwing hand this week.

In Week 12, the Bears will face another team with questions at quarterback when they host the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Steelers believe Rodgers is dealing with a break in his hand.

“The initial concern is that Aaron Rodgers has, in the words of one source, ‘a slight break’ his left wrist, but the Steelers quarterback will underdgo further testing Monday to determine the full extent of the injury and how long he’ll be sidelined, per league sources,” Schefter posted on X.

Schefter added that Mason Rudolph is likely to start against Chicago.

That’s a huge bummer for Bears fans who wanted to gain bragging rights by seeing Chicago beat the quarterback who said he owns the franchise. However, it would be better for the Bears’ playoff hopes for the defense to go against Rudolph.

Conflicting reports on Aaron Rodgers

Per Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Rodgers doesn’t think the issue is long-term.

“Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers will undergo more tests Monday on his left wrist, but the initial belief is it’s nothing long term, sources tell me and @RapSheet,” Pelissero posted on X. “X-rays at the stadium showed a small fracture. They won’t know more until further scans.”

“Aaron Rodgers has indicated to people close to him that he’ll be back soon,” Rapoport posted. “Initial testing would support that, but more coming.”

Rudolph went 12-of-16 passing for 127 yards and one touchdown in the Steelers’ 34-12 win over the Bengals on Sunday. But Pittsburgh would obviously be better with Rodgers.

Rodgers doesn’t look anywhere near last season’s New York Jets quarterback coming off an Achilles injury in 2023. He’s thrown for 1,969 yards, 19 touchdowns and 7 interceptions for the AFC North-leading 6-4 Steelers.

With Pittsburgh looking at making a push for the postseason, head coach Mike Tomlin might be cautious with Rodgers’ hand against a Bears team looking for their fourth win in a row.
