The Chicago Bulls are struggling with two major issues, a five-game losing streak and a roster burdened by injuries. After starting the 2025-26 season strongly, the team looked like it could be one of the league’s surprises, but that early success quickly faded. Now 11th in the Eastern Conference with a 9-12 record, the Bulls no longer appear to be a serious contender in the playoff race.

With the Bulls already in trouble, they will endure another setback as rookie forward Noa Essengue is expected to miss the remainder of the regular season after undergoing surgery on his left shoulder. Head coach Billy Donovan offered additional details on the decision.

“I think the recommendation was to get it fixed now instead of waiting, because it’s something that could continue to be a problem for him. The decision was made pretty much sometime today,” said the Bulls head coach via ESPN.

The Bulls selected Noa Essengue with the 12th overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. At only 18, the young forward displayed considerable promise as a two-way player, showcasing elite athleticism and sharp defensive instincts. Although his shooting needed work, the teenager showed steady progress.

Although Essengue is regarded as a promising talent, injuries have limited his NBA appearances. His two regular-season games do not fully reflect his abilities. A clearer measure of his potential comes from his Summer League performance with the Windy City Bulls, where he averaged 23 points, 8.5 rebounds on 31 minutes.

Essengue’s injury comes at a challenging time for the Chicago Bulls, who are already dealing with a slew of sidelined players. Key contributors such as Kevin Huerter, Zach Collins, Coby White, Josh Giddey, Ayo Dosunmu, Patrick Williams, and Isaac Okoro have all faced injuries that kept them off the court, leaving the team in a vulnerable position.

Right now, the Bulls are a team in transition. They possess a talented core and a few steady veterans, but with many of those veterans on expiring contracts, Chicago’s approach to the season remains puzzling.
