Chicago Bears HC makes curious comment about Caleb Williams’ problem
Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson watched the tape, and he didn’t like what he saw from his second-year quarterback on a couple of plays.

During his news conference on Monday, Johnson suggested Caleb Williams missed a throw he makes all the time in practice on a 3rd-and-15 play on the first drive. Williams tried to hit DJ Moore but missed.
Johnson was disappointed Williams was unable to make a pass he was capable of making. The first-year head coach also suggested he’s trying to bend over backwards to get the No. 1 pick in the 2024 draft in rhythm early in games.
A disappointing start for the Chicago Bears

“That was disappointing on that particular play,” Johnson said, via the Bears. “Was good with the decision, we just left it a little bit high there early in the game. Something that I’ve kind of talked about over the last few weeks with Caleb is, man, how can I best serve him to get him in a rhythm early in games to where we can have some strong starts to the first half?
“When you’re asking your first completion to be an 18-yard dagger route, that’s not always the easiest thing, particularly in those elements on the road like that. [It’s] something that he’s certainly capable of doing. He makes that throw all the time in practice.”
That’s a bad problem for Williams to have…
Williams and Moore weren’t in sync on Sunday. Moore caught just one pass for four yards in the 28-21 loss to the Green Bay. Johnson was surprised he wasn’t targeted more during the game.
A bad play by Caleb Williams

On the interception by Green Bay cornerback Keisean Nixon in the fourth quarter that sealed a Packers’ win, Johnson suggested Williams made the right decision to go to Kmet but should have thrown the ball sooner to the veteran tight end.
“From my perspective, it was a play that had a lot of options, just like I alluded to last night, and Cole happened to be the one that popped the most,” Johnson said. “It’s a good play by Nixon for them. He came off his guy and made a play on the ball.
“But had we seen it a little bit sooner and given Cole a better chance, I think we would have been pretty happy with that result.”
Johnson before the game that the Bears had been winning games in spite of the passing game. They lost on Sunday because of it.
Williams finished 19-of-35 passing for 186 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.
The Packers defense is very good, but the Bears are going to need to push the ball downfield against those types of defenses in the playoffs.
