Cubs’ Ian Happ shares strong endorsement for star free agency target
The Chicago Cubs have been linked as a potential suitor for multiple different free agency targets. So far, they have been unable to sign any of the big names they have been linked as potential landing spots for this offseason.
Over the last few years, Jed Hoyer and the front office have failed to deliver an aggressive offseason. Instead, the Cubs have focused on lesser moves that keep them competitive, but not a World Series contender.
With that being said, fans are hoping to see the team change that approach this time around.
Alex Bregman has been a star free agent constantly linked to Chicago this offseason. Last offseason, the Cubs also had interest in Bregman, but lost out on the bidding war to the Boston Red Sox because they weren’t willing to spend as much as the Red Sox were.
Many believe that Chicago is a legitimate suitor for Bregman this offseason. With Kyle Tucker likely leaving town, the Cubs badly need help in the lineup.
Keeping that in mind, outfielder Ian Happ spoke out with a clear endorsement for Chicago signing Bregman.

During the 2025 MLB season with Boston, Bregman played in 114 games. He hit 18 home runs to go along with 62 RBI, while also slashing .273/.360/.462. Bregman might not be the same level of star as Tucker, but he would help replace him.
At 31 years old, the Cubs could have a long-term option in Bregman. He might very well be a cornerstone of the current era of Chicago baseball.
While the Cubs could sign Bregman, fans won’t believe it until they see it. Hoyer is not known for getting big deals done. Bregman is not going to come cheap.
Expect to continue hearing rumors about Bregman and Chicago. Happ clearly likes the idea and so do the fans, but now the Cubs’ front office needs to get a deal done.
