Fun, Failure, Frustration, & Fame: Week 14
This is my reminder that fantasy football should be fun. It is also fair warning that I only play (and write about) fantasy football for fun. I have never done a paid league, and I would not suggest you use my thoughts in a betting situation. I am NOT an expert, and I play for fun.
FAILURE Part One: My Failures
Jordan Love
I predicted that Jordan Love would continue to struggle, but he proved me wrong in a big way, going 18 of 30 for 234 yards and 4 TDs!
D’Andre Swift
I thought D’Andre Swift wouuld continue his downward trend with the emergence of Kyle Monangai. Despite splitting carries with Monangai, Swift had 18 rushes for 125 yards and 1 TD, and added a reception for 13 yards. Monangai also had a good game, rushing 22 times for 130 yards and 1 TD. This backfield is tough to predict from here on out!
John Metchie III
I suggested John Metchie III as a waiver wire addition after he looked good against the Ravens. However, he only had four receptions on eight targets for 19 yards. It looks like I had the wrong Jets receiver in this one; Adonai Mitchell had eight receptions on 12 targets for 102 yards and 1 TD.
Part Two: This Week’s Player “Failures”
QB Aaron Rodgers
Aaron Rodgers struggled mightily in his return to the lineup, going just 10 of 21 for 117 yards and 0 TDs. The Steelers offense is struggling, so I expect Rodgers to put up pedestrian number from here on out. If the Steelers win games (let’s hope not), it will be because of their defense, not their offense.
Verdict: TREND
WR Zay Flowers
Zay Flowers managed only two receptions for six yards on seven targets, and had a fumble. The touchdown coming off the board for OPI really ruined his night. The Ravens offense is not in sync right now, and their offensive line is pathetic. I expect this trend to continue. If you have another starting WR option, it’s time to bench Flowers.
Verdict: TREND
WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba
Apparently Jaxon Smith-Njigba is human! This was his first “off game” of the season for fantasy managers. If you have him, you’re probably headed for the fantasy playoffs, so let’s hope he got it out of the way now. He had only two receptions for 23 yards on four targets. A lot of this was because Seattle’s defense and running game were dominating. JSN will continue to put up big numbers.
Verdict: FLUKE
RB Travis Etienne
Despite the Jaguars dominating the Titans on the scoreboard, it was not a good day for Travis Etienne. He rushed 12 times for 18 yards and had only a single reception for 13 yards. The Jaguars were in control of the game and winning in other ways, so I don’t think this trend will continue. I expect Etienne to rebound.
Verdict: FLUKE
FRUSTRATION
End of Fantasy Football Season this week for many!
In most leagues, Week 14 is the last week of the regular season, which means many people will officially be done with fantasy football after this week (or in a consolation bracket). It’s been a strange year; many players that were expected to be studs greatly underwhelmed for fantasy owners. Many of the fantasy managers being eliminated probably thought they did great in the draft, grabbing players like Saquon Barkley, Joe Burrow, A.J. Brown, etc. but it didn’t work out that way!
FAME Part One: What I Got Right Last Week
Lamar Jackson
I predicted Lamar Jackson would continue to struggle, and unfortunately I was correct. Lamar finished 17 of 32 for 246 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT. He added only 27 yards rushing on six carries.
Dalton Schultz
I expected Dalton Schultz to rebound, and he had a solid game, finishing with seven reception on eight targets for 55 yards.
Brenton Strange
I suggested TE Brenton Strange as a waiver wire addition, and he came through with a solid performance, with three receptions on four targets for 45 yards and 1 TD.
Part Two: Who I Like on the Waiver Wire
WR Adonai Mitchell
It’s hard to trust anything the Jets do, and I whiffed by suggesting John Metchie III last week, but there’s not a whole lot on the waiver wire right now. If you’re desperate for a WR, Jets WR Adonai Mitchell is a decent add. Last week he had eight receptions on 12 targets for 102 yards and 1 TD. The previous two weeks he did not have great production, but had a solid number of targets Week 11 (six), and Week 12 (seven). It looks like he will be given chances to produce each week.
TE Darren Waller
TE Darren Waller returned for the Miami Dolphins. He is a big target that always has a chance of producing a TD, which is key for fantasy TEs because not many get a ton of volume.
WR Jayden Higgins
Jayden Higgins is only rostered in 35% of Yahoo leagues. He’s had solid production scoring 11+ fantasy points in PPR format each of the last two games and three out of the last four..
